30 Days of Thankfulness: Day 10

I am THANKFUL for the Freedom to Homeschool!

We have Homeschooled from the very beginning and our boys have never been to Public School or any school outside the home. I "introduced" myself to homeschooling back in 1995 when I did a Paper for a College Class I was taking on Society. We had to choose a topic and discuss how Society views that topic and also discuss the reality of that topic. I choose Homeschooling. I must say it was a very eye opening project. I began dating my now husband, during the time I was writing this paper. We discussed educational choices for our future children during our engagement and prior to having our first child in 2002. We have always said we would homeschool and we have.

Homeschooling to me is just not about the "Academics" and nor is it "School at Home". First and foremost Homeschooling is about raising and training my boys to be Godly Men! Character Training, Responibility training and more all come into play for that. Putting God first in Homeschooling makes everything else fall into place.

I am THANKFUL that the State of IL allows us so much FREEDOM in Homeschooling. I love being able to choose our Curriculum and not limited in what I can teach the boys and not have to teach them something that I don't want them to be taught. I have a choice in their learning materials, not the "Schools" choosing!

Freedom to Homeschool is something I am VERY THANKFUL for!!

I am thankful that where I live - the state of Missouri - is very friendly towards homeschooling and Christian education in general. As you may know, my kids go to a Christian school - and our teachers don't even need to be certified by the state! It's a huge blessing and privilege. BTW, we are praying about HOMESCHOOLING next year - lots of things I can't share on my blog yet - but this may be in the works for our family! :)
