Momentum Influencers Blog Tour: The Christian Capitalist by Rich Sanders

The Christian Capitalist explores various scriptural references that support twin pillars of Christian belief: 1) working hard to make a productive benefit from talents and materials that God has provided all people; and 2) giving generously to share those benefits with our neighbors in the name of Jesus Christ. Through a discussion of Holy Scripture, it analyzes various passages that relate to these concepts
of productivity and generosity, along with two thousand years of history discussing the good works of Christians as examples. Ultimately, this book develops a philosophy that is uniquely Christian and capitalist: the Gospel of Hard Work and Generous Giving!

Rich Sanders is the founding pastor of Online Home Church in the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta, which has met weekly online since the pandemic shutdown in March 2020. He earned his Master’s in Divinity from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University in 2015. Rich follows a bi-vocational calling, so he serves in ministry and in business. As the retired President of Southern Health Lawyers, he practiced law for nearly thirty years. He has been named annually to The Best Lawyers in America- Healthcare since 2011, and he is a past president of the Georgia Academy of Healthcare Attorneys. Rich is the founder of the charitable organization St. Michael’s Mission, Inc., which is a ministry organized to assist and serve active duty and veterans of the armed services. He is a retired volunteer chaplain at the Interfaith Airport Chapel at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and served as its
President of the Board of Directors from 2017 until 2023.

An ENDORSEMENT:

“As a small business owner, my husband and I have experienced both
success and challenges. The Christian Capitalist reminded me that going to church isn’t the only way to worship God. By working hard and giving to others, I share the blessings God has given to me and my family with others.” - Elizabeth Cranston, Esq., Chief Executive Officer, Cana, LLC, Washington, DC.

I wasn't too sure what to expect from a title of "The Christian Capitalist" by Rich Sanders. I was very intrigued by the title so I decided to take a chance and read it.

I am VERY glad I took the chance on this book. Rich Sanders has really done extensive research on what the Bible says about Money and working hard to achieve success as Christians. I think the one thing that really comes to mind when I read this book is being a cheerful Giver.
2 Corinthians 9:6-8
Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

The author really explains how Christians can work hard and give generously. We cannot take our "riches" with us to heaven, so here on earth we should give back to others. I LOVE that the author really gives Biblical examples of how Christians can be "capitalist's"! The book is well written and encouraging. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who needs encouragement in handling Money with a Biblical Perspective. Rich Sanders has lived this life that he entails in this book and he is a WONDERFUL example to others! GREAT BOOK!

Momentum `Influencers Blog Tour: Something to Stand For Movie

Join America’s favorite storyteller on an epic journey to the heart of Washington DC. Drawing from his blockbuster podcast “The Way I Heard It,” this cinematic tour de force will take viewers to the frontlines of the American Revolution, World War II, the Civil Rights movement, and more.

Part mystery, part history—each harrowing tale tells a story you’ve never heard, about the patriots who built our country.

From the legendary rebels we call the “Founding Fathers” to unknown Marines of Iwo Jima – these are the Americans who risked everything to build the country we love and call home. The American heroes who gave us… something to stand for!

If you love true stories, you’ll love this collection of real-life tales of American Heroes, all narrated by Mike Rowe!

Mike Rowe is a writer, narrator, producer, recording artist, Emmy-Award winning TV Host, New York Times Best Selling author, and the CEO of the mikeroweWORKS Foundation. As the creator and host of the iconic TV series Dirty Jobs, Mike is best-known as “the dirtiest man on TV,” but his true calling is storytelling. From Somebody’s Gotta Do It to Returning the Favor, The Story Behind the Story, Six Degrees, and The Way I Heard It, Mike continues to tap the country on the shoulder and say, “These are people you should know.”

In his role as a perpetual apprentice, Mike has highlighted hundreds of workers in dozens of essential industries. His foundation has awarded millions of dollars in work ethic scholarships, and his commitment to reinvigorate the skilled trades is unrivaled.

I have been a FAN of Mike Rowe for many years, since his days of "Dirty Jobs".  I also appreciate that he is an advocate for encouraging the Young Generation to go into the Trades and that College is not for everyone. I was VERY excited when I found out that he had a new movie coming out just in time for the Fourth of July Holiday!

I absolutely LOVED the movie, Something to Stand For! Mike Rowe tells the story of the beginnings of our Country, the current downfalls and why we have to Stand Up for our country. Mike Rowe has always been a FANTASTIC story teller, even compared to the great Radio Host Paul Harvey. I really LOVE the True Stories told in this movie. I felt like I was in a BRAND NEW History class as many of the stories I never learned in History Class in High School. Mike Rowe even said at the beginning of the movie "We are going on a Field Trip.". I HIGHLY recommend this movie to anyone who enjoys learning about our Country and how we can STAND Proud for our Country. Mike Rowe is an AMAZING Patriot and I truly LOVED this movie!

The innate human longing for comfort is undeniable. However, Jesus challenges us to step beyond the boundaries of our comfort zones and venture into the profound realm of faith, aptly described as trust zones by Cecil Taylor. These are the spaces where we dare to take risks in service of Christ’s Kingdom. In this enlightening exploration of the Bible, Cecil Taylor delves into 12 narratives of Jesus encouraging individuals to forsake their comfort zones in favor of trust zones. Through insightful interpretation, he unveils the valuable lessons these stories impart for contemporary followers of Jesus.

Christian Living Book are a great genre. From Comfort Zone to Trust Zone: How Jesus Urges Us to Take Leaps of Faith for His Kingdom by Cecil Taylor is the latest book in this genre that I have read.

I am a person who doesn't like to step out of my Comfort Zone too often. I have routines and I also have things that I prefer to do. I am also an introvert, so stepping out of my Comfort Zone is a BIG LEAP for me. I really enjoyed how Cecil Taylor gave us 12 stories of how Jesus encouraged many to take a leap of Faith and Trust to come out of Comfort Zones. I believe the key is FAITH and TRUST to overcome the fears of leaving Comfort Zones. The stories are really enlightening and encouraging. The book would make a great discussion for Small Groups as well as individuals. GREAT BOOK!

With more than 30 years’ experience as an adult Sunday School teacher and as many in youth ministry, Cecil Taylor has impacted lives in local churches throughout his adult life. He founded Cecil Taylor Ministries to broaden that impact, teaching Christians to live a 7-day practical faith through books, video studies, and speaking engagements. His ministry is cross-denominational, focused on the common struggle Christians face in putting their faith into practice and applying scripture and faith principles to life situations.

From Comfort Zone to Trust Zone has won the 2024 Living Water Award (nonfiction, third place) from the Blue Lake Christian Writer’s Conference. This is the fourth award that Cecil has been presented across his three books.

More from Cecil

Comfort zones can be positive. Not only do we feel good about ourselves, but we also can be effective and efficient. We can find a groove. We may even be able to mentor others and cause a ripple effect of good.

But comfort zones can fool us. Our comfort zones can become invisible. They can limit us and tell us not to take risks. Comfort zones can keep us from going all-in on what Jesus has to offer us.

As I read the Gospels, I see how Jesus frequently pushed people out of comfort zones and into his trust zones, where they would take leaps of faith for the sake of his kingdom. Similarly, Jesus calls us out of comfort zones today, inviting us to take risks while deepening our faith.

A woman who read From Comfort Zone to Trust Zone said one of the most gripping moments in the book is when I shared my own story of going all-in for Jesus. I had grown up in the church as a preacher’s kid. Throughout decades of my adult life, I was a leader in my church, a highly committed volunteer, someone others might think was all-in for Christ.

But I wasn’t all-in, though I fooled myself into thinking I was. In a time when I asked for more comfort zone, Jesus gave me a trust zone: to forget about volunteering so much and to focus on giving my heart to God. I was busted, as I foolishly thought I had hidden from God that I wasn’t fully yielding control of my life. I didn’t know what Jesus would ask of me, so I held him at arm’s length. My prayers zeroed in on what was comfortable for me rather than what the Holy Spirit was beckoning me to do.

Since that moment, my life has changed. I believe your life needs to change, too, if you’re feeling comfortable. It’s time to get uncomfortable, to overcome your desire for certainty, and to inspect the ways in which you have limited the Spirit’s power to work through you. I invite you on a journey to identify subtle comfort zones that you never knew you had and to uncover trust zones that will take your faith to new levels while mightily serving Christ. I invite you to the experience that is From Comfort Zone to Trust Zone: How Jesus Urges Us to Take Leaps of Faith for His Kingdom.

Celebrate Lit Blog Tour: Texas Forsaken by Sherry Shindelar

Book: Texas Forsaken

Author: Sherry Shindelar

Genre: Christian Historical Romance

Release date: May 21, 2024

The man who destroyed her life may be the only one who can save it.

Seven years ago, Maggie Logan (Eyes-Like-Sky) lost everything she knew when a raid on a wagon train tore her from her family. As the memories of her past faded to nothing more than vague shadows, Maggie adapted—marrying a Comanche warrior, having a baby, and rebuilding her life. But in one terrible battle, the U.S. Cavalry destroys that life, and she is taken captive again, this time by those who call themselves her people. Forced into a world she wants nothing to do with, Eyes-Like-Sky’s only hope of protecting her child may be an engagement to the man who killed her husband.

Enrolled in West Point to escape his overbearing father, Captain Garret Ramsey has graduated and finds himself assigned to the Texas frontier, witnessing the brutal Indian War in which both sides commit atrocities. Plagued by guilt for his own role, Garret seeks redemption by taking responsibility for the woman he widowed and her baby. Though he is determined to do whatever it takes to protect them, is he willing to risk everything for a woman whose heart is buried in a grave? Or is there hope she might heal to love once more?

Christian Historical Romance is one of my favorite genres. Texas Forsaken by Sherry Shindelar is the latest in this genre that I have read. It is Book 1 in the Lone Star Redemption Series.

The setting is 1860's in Texas. Maggie Logan (Eyes-Like-Sky) has rebuilt her life in the past Seven Years since she lost EVERYTHING when a Wagon Train Raid took her away from her family. Maggie has married a Comanche Warrior and had a baby (Little Star) and she is at a happy place in life. Life takes a turn when she is taken captive by the US Cavalry and her husband is killed. She feels her only way to protect her child is to marry the man who killed her husband. Captain Garret Ramsey has been assigned the Texas Frontier and has witnessed all the recent battles. He feels led to protect Maggie and her child. Will Maggie open her heart to allow Garret to take care of her and her child? Will there be a romance between Maggie and Garret?

I truly enjoyed this book from the very beginning. The Historical times and events were very interesting and intriguing. My heart broke for Maggie Logan for going through loss not once, but twice. I LOVE that Garret wanted to protect Maggie and her daughter and gave his word to do so. Maggie is too filled with Gried and Anger at first, but watching her heart change and soften toward Garret was heartwarming. I LOVE that the characters have faith and belief in God. The book is one about Forgiveness, Life Changes, God's plan, and Second Chances. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Historical Romance! FANTASTIC BOOK!

More from Sherry

The story of Cynthia Anne Parker, the most famous captive of the nineteenth century, haunted my heart for a couple of decades. Abducted from one world, adopted into another, and then stolen back, Cynthia Ann’s story of love and unrepairable loss captured my heart. All the more so since it was fact, not fiction.

I longed to give her a second chance. So I developed a character who was similar to Cynthia, started the narrative at the moment of crisis, and wrote a different trajectory. I couldn’t give Cynthia a happy ending, but I could give Eyes-Like-Sky a story of love and hope taking root in the midst of devastating loss.

Cynthia was taken captive by Comanches at age nine during an attack on her family’s fort in the Texas frontier in 1836. Her father and several extended family members were killed, and her brother John, her cousin Rachel, and a couple other family members were captured along with her.

Her Aunt Elizabeth was rescued a couple months after the attack. Her cousin Rachel, who had been badly abused by the tribe, was ransomed a couple of years later and died within a year of her return. John adopted the Comanche lifestyle and lived with the tribe for years before eventually leaving the tribe to farm in Mexico. But Cynthia became Comanche and became an integral part of the tribe for over twenty-four years.

She married an influential war chief, Peta Nocona, and had three children with him, including Quanah Parker, who eventually became a powerful Comanche chief. Several times over the years, Indian agents and traders attempted to ransom her, but she refused to go, and the tribe rejected their offers.

In December 1860, Texas Rangers, along with U.S. Cavalry troops, attacked her village and captured her and her baby girl, Prairie Flower (Topsanah), killing everyone else in the camp. (There has been significant historical debate about whether her husband was present at the time. Some accounts claim he died fighting to protect her. Other evidence points to him having been away on a hunting trip at the time of the attack and dying a couple years later from an old battle wound.)

Eventually, one of Cynthia’s relatives claimed her and took her to live with family, but she refused to accept this new life that was being forced upon her. Repeatedly, she tried to escape to the open plains, desperate to find her husband and her sons. One of her uncles eventually agreed to help her look for her people, but they’d have to wait until the Civil War ended.

Prairie Flower died, word came that Cynthia’s son Pecos had passed away, as well, and the Civil War dragged on. Cynthia lost hope of ever being reunited with the two remaining members of her beloved family, Nocona and Quanah.  Overcome by sadness and longing, she sank into a deep depression and died of a broken heart.

Cynthia Ann’s story, the story of a woman torn between cultures, perplexed, intrigued, and haunted me. My heart ached for her loss, and questions flooded my mind. Some stories are like that. They stay with you, and this one was all the more indelible because it was true and filled with unknowns.

As I put pen to paper to begin Texas Forsaken, I sought to create an indelible story of heart-wrenching trials, forgiveness, and second chances. A story of love and hope born anew. A story of redemption.
