Celebrate Lit Blog Tour: Restored Grace by Kathleen J. Robison

Book: Restored Grace

Author: Kathleen J. Robison

Genre: Christian Romantic Suspense

Release date: June 21, 2022

They promised Jesus would be with her through everything, but is that enough?

Free-spirited vintage thrift shop owner, Carol Scape, wallowed in grief after her boyfriend’s murder. However, with newfound faith, she’s finding out what it means to die-to-self and put others first. Even if it could cost her life.

Carol is on a mission to save a runaway teen and an at-risk girl from Will Boudreaux, the man just released from jail for running a prostitution ring. The same man who previously terrorized Bay Town residents. Can’t the town get a break? Can’t she?

She’s up for the challenge, but when sparks ignite between her and the town mayor, it muddles things. Having sworn off men, he’s getting in the way of what she feels she must do. Or is he?

Restored Grace is the second book of the Bay Town Series, continuing one year after Shattered Guilt. It’s a stand-alone, amped-up, romantic suspense. Buckle your seat belt. You’re in for a ride.

Restored Grace by Kathleen J Robison is Book 2 in the Bay Town series. I have not yet read Book 1 in this series, but I have read the Prelude book for this series. I have been anxiously awaiting this book.

Carol Scape has mourned for her murdered boyfriend for a long while. She runs a Thrift store and loves her free spirited lifestyle. She is now ready to move forward in life and believes that God is with her to help her. She recently found her faith in God and has learned about doing for others before herself. Carol learns that Will Boudreaux, a man who spent time in prison for Prostitution ring, is back in town. Carol sets her mind to keeping girls safe from this man, especially since he has been known to scare the residents of Bay Town. Will Carol succeed at keeping the girls in town safe? Will she put her life in danger doing so?

WOW, this book was captivating from the very beginning. The author does touch on some sensitive topics including Sex Trafficking, Abuse and Sex before marriage. The author is very eloquent in how the topics are addressed. Carol is an amazing character and I LOVE her story of being a new Christian.  I appreciate her gumption in wanting to keep the girls in town safe. I  HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who needs encouragement and those who are new Chrsitians. Also for anyone who love Christian Fiction! FANTASTIC BOOK!

Kathleen J. Robison is an Okinawan-American, born in Okinawa, and raised in California, Florida, Mississippi, and Singapore. Her travels and her family are the sources of her inspiration for her books. Kathleen and her Pastor husband have eight adult children. Seven are married, blessing them with eighteen grandchildren and counting. Her ethnically diverse background extends to her family of currently thirty-five personalities which provide many opportunities to share God’s amazing love amidst the challenges of real life.

More from Kathleen

I love writing inspirational romantic suspense featuring heroic women. In Restored Grace, Carol Scape embodies my efforts. She’s impulsive, she’s wild, she’s crazy…and she’s back. With a newfound faith in Christ, she tackles the bad guy with a style all her own.

The main character in Restored Grace is a favorite of mine. In fact, I brought her back from Book One because my Library Critique Group loved her so much. When I read a chapter from Shattered Guilt, where Carol plays a minor role, the Branch Manager Librarian laughed and quipped, “I know women just like her, and you nailed her perfectly!”

Perhaps in some ways, I secretly (I guess it’s not a secret now) wish I was her. Impulsive, the life of the party, indifferent to what people think about her, and confident in her skin. Carol is 50ish, pleasantly curvy, a boho-chic hippie with long wavy, graying, red hair that constantly tangles in her arms, and others because she moves so quickly. She wears lots of loud, jingly jewelry, and always puts on her prettiest face (with light makeup but tempted to use a heavy hand). And I love her fashion style. Colorful swirling, tiered skirts, cowboy boots, peasant tops, and fringed shawls. If I was taller, I’d love to carry that off, so I let my alter ego, Carol Scape do it for me.

Yet, in some ways, women like her used to drive me crazy. They walk into a room, and in minutes their larger-than-life personalities can’t help but draw attention. But I’m so thankful the Lord has humbled me, and if someone drives me crazy … I look at myself and see what I need to work on. Still, call it envy, expectations, or too much energy, but people like her exist, don’t they? And we must admit, they’re a lot of fun. Are you a Carol, or do you know a Carol? Either way, we’re called to love everyone. And the most important thing is caring about all people enough to be concerned for their eternity. I don’t mean judging, but sharing, encouraging, and pointing them to Jesus, whoever they may be and wherever they are in their walk.

Three particular things that I hope you’ll identify in the new Carol are her struggle with God’s grace, her selfless desire to help others, and her discovered confidence in Christ. The beauty of writing inspirational romantic suspense is bringing to life how real people, with real problems, struggle with their faith just like us, as we trust that the victory belongs to the Lord.

I hope you enjoy reading Restored Grace, and I hope you’re encouraged and inspired to receive and extend the precious grace of our Savior, Jesus, to all those whom God puts in your path…much like Carol.

Celebrate Lit Blog Tour: Rebuilding Hearts by Carolyn Miller

Book: Rebuilding Hearts

Author: Carolyn Miller

Genre: Christian Contemporary Romance

Release date: June 28, 2022

Who knew a bank robbery could show a girl that good guys still exist?

Tim Franklin. Quiet, shy, almost incapable of speaking to a girl, and a budding horticulturist. Oh, and he survived a bank robbery five years ago, not to mention its resulting trauma.

Bookworm Bella Dwyer just wants to feel safe, and Tim’s actions during the robbery made her believe there might be guys who live up to her fictional heroes. Trouble is, a chance with Tim seems as remote as this year’s celebrity heartthrob.

Instead, she settled for a relationship with a guy who’s commitment-phobic.

So when Bella encounters Tim on tiny Sparrow Island, the challenges of her past and present collide, and she questions whether there really is a future with a man who can’t commit.

In a leap of faith, Bella dumps her boyfriend, even before shy-guy Tim can make a move. But in wanting to live by faith and conquer fear, has she made the right choice, or are her hopes for freedom and a future destined to fail?

Read the next Sparrow Island novel in the Independence Islands Series featuring five islands, six authors, and a boatload of happily-ever-afters.

The Independence Islands Series: beach reads aren’t just for summer anymore.

I have been enjoying the Independence Islands series. I have read several of the books. One thing I especially like is that each book in the series is written by a variety of authors, and they all read well as Stand Alone Books. Rebuilding Hearts by Carolyn Miller is Book 25 in the Independence Islands series of Books and Book 6 in the Sparrow Island series.  I am always anxiously awaiting new books in the series.

Tim Franklin has lived on Sparrow Island for a few years. He is a quiet guy and he LOVES Horticulture. He survived a Bank Robbery a few years ago, but still suffers Trauma from the event. Bella Dwyer has always had a LOVE for books and reading. She recently moved to Sparrow Island to take the job of Librarian at the tiny library in town. Bella runs into Tim on the island and remembers him from the Bank Robbery and she feels that there are modern-day heroes because of his actions that day. Bella is smitten by Tim, but she currently has a boyfriend. Bella admits that her boyfriend, Chad, doesn't make her feel safe and he recently has been non-committal and also not responding to her calls. She decides she wants out of that relationship and breaks it off. She is hopeful that Tim will also have interest in her as she does in him. Will there be a relationship between Tim and Bella? Will the pair come out of their "Shells" and give each other a chance?

WOW, such a fun-loving book and another great addition to the Independence Island series! Bella and Tim are wonderful characters in this book and I LOVE how both are a bit shy and both have interests that are of studious nature. Bella was wonderfully shocked to see Tim on Sparrow Island and she was excited also. Bella is courageous in making the decision to be happy in life and dumps her non attentive boyfriend. I enjoyed this book from beginning to end and it was so intriguing that I stayed glued to the book! The story is one of second chances, trust, and faith. FANTASTIC BOOK!

Who doesn’t love to read a book about a bookworm?

Many avid readers I know love the idea of working in a library – so imagine working in a library on a tiny island! And then to encounter a handsome borrower of books with arms of Thor, well, it’d be like a fictional hero come to life. Except maybe this hero isn’t so fictional…

For Rebuilding Hearts, my next book in the Independence Islands series, I loved turning the spotlight onto Tim Franklin, Greener Gardens’ strong, silent employee with secret dreams, and exploring what happens when two opposites attract over a shared love of books and movies.

Rebuilding Hearts explores some bigger questions concerning family, identity and whether God’s plans can be considered good when things go wrong. I love writing fiction that’s grounded in truth, with realistic, flawed characters who are on God journeys to find faith, freedom, and love.

I’m so thankful people are enjoying my contemporary books, where I can share my love of gardens (& my horticulturalist hubby’s expertise!) to a new audience. Please check out my website www.carolynmillerauthor.com to see what’s growing in my garden here in my corner of Australia.

If you enjoy stories of hope, heart and humor, then you’ll be sure to enjoy this novel about a librarian and a Hemsworthy hero as together they find restoration for their hearts.

Happy reading!

Carolyn

Genre: Amish-inspirational romance

Bestselling author Jo Ann Brown returns to the Amish community of Bliss Valley, where finding a new beginning means facing the past…

After losing both her fiancĂ© and the happy life she anticipated, Amish maedel Grace Coffman is still stitching the pieces of her life back together. But between working in a quilting shop with an unscrupulous Englisch boss and caring for her ill parents, her threads keep unraveling. At first, the arrival of a kind, attractive stranger feels like a coincidence. But the more Grace learns about Joel Beachy and his story, the more their meeting seems like providence…

Joel's return to Bliss Valley—and the Plain people—is his last chance to redeem a life filled with missteps. Yet in Grace, Joel finds something he never imagined: trust, courage, and even the possibility of hope. When Grace suddenly finds herself the guardian of her nephews, Joel sees an opportunity to keep two wayward boys from repeating his mistakes. But Joel's dark past isn't quite finished with him. And now he must pray that his new life is strong enough to withstand the pending storm of trouble…and secrets.

“Brown is a gifted writer who makes unforgettable characters that invite the reader to join them on their journey.” —Publishers Weekly bestselling author Marie E. Bast

Amish Fiction is my favorite Genre of all time to read. A Search for Redemption by Jo Ann Brown is Book 3 in the Secrets of Bliss Valley series. I have had the honor of reading the first 2 books in this series and was anxiously awaiting the release of Book 3.

Grace Coffman is still mourning the loss of her fiancĂ© and dreams of what could have been for them. She does enjoy her job at the local Quilt Shop, but her boss is not exactly a nice person to work with. Grace is also the caregiver for her parents, as they are older in life. Joel Beachy returns to Bliss Valley after spending time in Jail. He is not cordially welcomed back into town, but Grace feels that she would like to get to know him. Grace learns of Joel's story and she is now thinking that his coming back to Bliss Valley was a "God Send" and meant to be. Joel sees how much Grace loves her family, especially when she becomes a caregiver to her 2 nephews. Joel sees this as an opportunity to nurture the boys from a male perspective in hopes they don't make life mistakes as he did. Joel feels that his past might creep up and destroy what the future could hold for him. Will Joel be able to move forward without the past dictating his future happiness? Will there be a Romance between Joel and Grace?

WOW, I have to say that this book was probably my favorite in the series! I was reeled into this storyline from the very first few pages. The author does a great job at connecting the Characters to each other and to the story. Grace seems to be a forgiving person who wants to move forward in life. The kindness she shows to Joel and being a caregiver to her parents and nephews is remarkable. Joel is a person who feels he has a lot to prove after his troubled past. The people of Bliss Valley know his past and are not too quick to welcome him home. The friendship formed between Grace and Joel is beautiful. This book is one of Forgiveness, facing the past, and moving forward, one of redemption. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Amish Fiction. FANTASTIC BOOK!!

The more his feelings for the courageous woman grow, the greater his determination to protect her by guarding his secrets. Her own investigations place her in enough peril.

I am a fan of Historical Fiction and the Civil War Era is especially intriguing to me. Byway to Danger by Sandra Merville Hart is the latest book in this genre that I have read. It is Book 3 in the Spies of the Civil War Series. I have had the honor of reading the first 2 books in this series and I was anxiously awaiting the release of this book!

We are taken back to Richmond, VA in 1862. Meg Brooks, who is a widow, used to work for the Pinkerton National Detective Agency as a Union spy. She now lives in a Confederate town and works at the local bakery, Yancey Bakery. Working at the Bakery gives her the opportunity to give info about the Confederates to her contacts at in the Union. She works alone with the spying and prefers it that way. Cade Yancey, is also a widower, and he is the owner of the Bakery. He has friends in the Union and he knows of Meg's spying. Cade has feelings for Meg and as the feelings grow stronger, he is determined to keep his secrets from her. He has been hiding some dangerous activities and he doesn't want her to feel uncomfortable. Meg is also put into some dangerous perils. She wonders if it is time to trust Cade with the information she hasn't told anyone else. Will Meg and Cade share their secrets with one another? Will they feel safer if they share? Will there be a romance between the pair?

WOW, another GREAT Book in this series! I was captivated by the storyline from the beginning.  I really enjoyed how this book focused on  Trusting someone in your life. Trust is an issue in life with so many nowadays and it is nice to read a book that shows how to trust others.  I really liked watching the relationship between Meg and Cade grow slowly and how they learned they could trust each other. The book is faith-based and has some faith references. I was so amazed by this story that I started it and couldn't put it down until I was done about 4hrs later! WONDERFUL BOOK!

More from Sandra

In Byway to Danger, Book 3 of my “Spies of the Civil War” series, both Cade and Meg—our hero and heroine—are Union spies living in Richmond, the Confederate capital in 1862. As if this isn’t dangerous enough, Meg is also a former Pinkerton spy. One Pinkerton spy was hanged in the spring and three others now sit in Richmond jails.

Meg works as an assistant in Cade’s bakery. The strong, quiet man keeps a secret from Meg to protect her, for he’s a conductor on the Underground Railroad. He provides food, clothing, and a safe place to stay until he’s able to take them on to the next stop several miles outside the city. Cade has done this for years before the Civil War and continues as the war rages, a perilous mission.

Historically, early in the war on May 23, 1861, three men escaped slavery and fled to Fort Monroe. Frank Baker, Shepard Mallory, and James Townsend had worked on Confederate fortifications before escaping on a rowboat. They sought the safety of Union soldiers at the fort. The men informed Union Major General Benjamin F. Butler that they escaped from Confederate Colonel Charles K. Mallory of the 115th Virginia Militia.

The next day, Confederate Major John B. Cary arrived at Fort Monroe under a flag of truce. Cary met with Butler and requested he return the enslaved men to Mallory as required by the Fugitive Slave Act.

Butler did some fast thinking. Since the three men had been building fortifications for war, they could be seized as “contraband of war” and didn’t have to be returned. His refusal to return the men was a pivotal decision and sparked a future law that protected fugitives who sought the protection of Union camps.

Dozens of fugitive men, women, and children had joined Baker, Mallory, and Townsend at Fort Monroe within three days. Many others fled to the fort in the following months. “Grand Contraband Camp” was established about three miles from Fort Monroe on the charred remains of Hampton to accommodate the hundreds of fugitives.  It was the nation’s first self-contained black community. By 1865, thousands lived in this camp.

Part of my research for this novel involved a trip to Virginia’s Fort Monroe. (If you love history and have never visited Fort Monroe, I recommend it!) Though I wasn’t certain of my story at the time of my visit, I was so inspired by the fort’s history that I knew it had to be part of my story. And it is!

Avenue of Betrayal, Book 1, is set in the Union capital of Washington City (Washington DC) in 1861, where a surprising number of Confederate sympathizers and spies lived. Boulevard of Confusion and Byway to Danger are set in Richmond, the Confederate capital in 1862. Actual historical spies touch the lives of our fictional family.

Through both real and fictional characters, this series highlights activities spies were involved in and some of the motives behind their decisions.

I invite you to read the whole “Spies of the Civil War” series beginning with Book 1 Avenue of Betrayal, Book 2 Boulevard of Confusion, and Book 3 Byway to Danger!
