Celebrate Lit Blog Tour: After Our Castle by Kellyn Roth

Book: After Our Castle

Author: Kellyn Roth

Genre: Historical Women’s Fiction

Release date: October, 2022

A year into a blissfully happy marriage, Violet Angel admits to a dose of skepticism. She’s not married, granted—but as the closest friend of the bride and groom, she feels she has a perspective no one but the people directly involved could have. There’s no such thing as a happy ending, and it’s only a matter of time before the castle in the sky plummets to earth.

If only Violet were always wrong instead of just mostly wrong. Ivy McAllen doesn’t believe she and her new husband are out of the honeymoon period—if they are, she isn’t going to admit it to herself—but there are certainly areas of adjustment that she hadn’t expected.

Changes at the village of Keefmore and in Ivy’s life lead to complications, and Violet spirals further and further from reality. When a castle in the sky turns to be more cloud than stronghold, finding a foothold proves to be more than a little difficult.

Historical Fiction is an interesting genre to read.  After Our Castle by Kellyn Roth is Book 6 The Chronicles of Alice and Ivy series. I have read a couple of the books in this series and each one seems to do well as a Stand Alone book. I prefer to read books in order in a series, but if you are unable to, you won't be lost.

Violet Angel has a bit of skepticism about her friends Ivy's marriage. She feels Ivy and her husband, Jordy, make a good couple, yet she feels their marriage is not solid, even after a year. Ivy doesn't see it the way her friend Violet does. Ivy is excited about growing their family one day, although her husband doesn't feel the same. Ivy feels her husband is too immersed in his work and she also thinks he might be hiding something. Violet begins to feel jealous of her friend Ivy and her marriage and it is causing Mental Health issues for her. Will Ivy and Jordy begin to grow closer in their marriage? Will Jordy or Violet reveal some truths to Ivy?

I have to say I continue to enjoy this series and each book seems to get better and better!  The storyline captivated me from the first chapter. My favorite character in the book was Ivy. She seemed to be so sweet and loving. The Historical content and especially the Christian values in the book were fantastic. I HIGHLY recommend this book for anyone who is a fan of Christian Historical Fiction! WONDERFUL BOOK!

Kellyn Roth is a historical romance & women’s fiction author who writes about the empty places where hope has the most room to grow. Her novels include the inspirational Victorian family saga, The Chronicles of Alice and Ivy, and the Kees & Colliers series, which follows a broken family in the tumultuous years of the first half of the 20th century.

Kellyn is a student of the Author Conservatory and a writing coach. When not building her author career, she is likely getting lost somewhere in the Pacific Northwest with her friends, watching period dramas and facetious comedies, or spending time with her husband.

More from Kellyn

After Our Castle was a book I didn’t think I would ever write. Oh, I considered writing a short story or two about the early years of Ivy and Jordy’s marriage, yes, but it wasn’t until last year that I decided that I would write a full-length novel.

Why did I hesitate? I’m writing a family saga, after all, and I plan on covering every stage of my characters’ lives in the 10+ books I’m planning (this being book 6). Well, I didn’t think there was anything to be discussed about Ivy and Jordy’s early married days, as there was with my other book couple, Alice and Peter. Nothing interesting, I thought, happens until 1890, eight years into their union. So why write about anything before then?

Then I realized just how much backstory I was packing into that book. And I realized that, for my writing style, there are so many little things that can add up into a book. And that became the story that is After Our Castle.

The novel wasn’t an easy one to write. It required a lot of subtlety and doesn’t precisely have the most perfect ending. But I knew, if I wanted to set up book 8, I would have to write the novel this way.

So here we go. Another book I wasn’t sure about–but that careful writing and even more careful editing, along with a lot of prayer, have turned into a story I’m actually rather proud of.

I hope you enjoy After Our Castle!

Celebrate Lit Blog Tour: Mary by Shannon McNear

Book: Mary

Author: Shannon McNear

Genre: Historical/Christian/Romance Fiction

Release date: October, 2022

Worlds Collide Along the Shores of the Outer Banks

Immerse yourself in the “what if” questions related to the Lost Colony of Roanoke. What if an English boy and a native girl met in the wilderness? The push-and-pull between two very different worlds begins as one seeks simple friendship and the other struggles to trust. And can it—dare they—allow it to be more?

Sparks fly between Mushaniq, free-spirited daughter of Manteo, and Georgie Howe, whose father was brutally murdered by undiscovered native warriors before they’d been on Roanoac Island a full week. As Georgie struggles to make sense of his life and to accept that not all they call “savage” are guilty of his father’s death, Mushaniq grapples with her own questions about who Manteo has become. As tentative friendship becomes more, forged in the fire of calamity and attack upon their community, both must decide whether the One True God is indeed who He claims to be and whether He is worthy of their trust.

Christian Historical Fiction genre is always an interesting genre to read. Mary by Shannon McNear is Book 2 in Daughters of the Lost Colony. I read Book 1 in this series and have been anxiously waiting for this book!

We are taken back to 1590s in the Colonial times.  Mushaniq is Native American and her Dad is Manteo. Georgie Howe is an Englisher whose father was murdered by the Native Warriors within the first week of arriving on Roanoac Island. Georgie is grieving and wondering how to move forward in life. Georige and Mushaniq form a friendship. Georgie knows that not all are like those who killed his father. Mushaniq is questioning and pondering about who her father, Manteo, has become. Georgie and Mushaniq are moving forward in their relationship and wonder how to combine their 2 different backgrounds. Will Georgie and Mushaniq be able to have more then a friendship? Will they survive the times and bring each other comfort?

WOW, the author clearly has done her research for writing this book. I was intrigued by the storyline from the very first chapter.  The book is fictional, but the author does a GREAT job of bringing the story to life. Georgie and Mushaniq are both strong individuals and I LOVE who they form a friendship. I also appreciate that the characters rely on their Faith to help them through the challenges in the New World. This book is about Forgiveness, Romance and Faith.  I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Historical Fiction. I am looking forward to more books in this series. WONDERFUL BOOK!

Transplanted to North Dakota after more than two decades in Charleston, South Carolina, Shannon McNear loves losing herself in local history. She’s a military wife, mom of eight, mother-in-law of three, grammie of two, and a member of ACFW and RWA. Her first novella, Defending Truth in A Pioneer Christmas Collection, was a 2014 RITA® finalist. When she’s not sewing, researching, or leaking story from her fingertips, she enjoys being outdoors, basking in the beauty of the northern prairies. Connect with her at www.shannonmcnear.com, or on Facebook and Goodreads.

More from Shannon

Why did I write Mary? The series started as an idea suggested by my editor and soon became something of an obsession. This installment was inspired partly by the Legend of the Coharie, a fragment of the very murky history surrounding the Roanoke Colony and the Lumbee people of North Carolina. According to this legend, George Howe, the son of the colonist by same name who was brutally murdered a few days after their landing on Roanoke Island, married a daughter of Manteo, the Native man who traveled twice to England, later led a group of the colonists inland for refuge and eventually became an ancestor of the Lumbees. Then, as my Lost Colony research expanded, my interest in the nuances of two cultures meeting and blending grew into a desire to pay tribute to what might have been the first (and possibly only) example of European and Native peoples living together in peace. Imagine if this had been the defining moment of our country’s founding?

As usually happens, fictional characters (even those based on historical figures) sooner or later run away with the story—and that’s the part I find most exciting! I hope you, the readers, also enjoy this tale of Mushaniq (squirrel in Carolina Algonquian) and Georgie, which serves as both a parallel story and sequel to Elinor.

JustRead Tours Blog Tour: SCARS by Linda K. Rodante

Welcome to the Blog + Review Blitz for SCARS by Linda K. Rodante, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

Title: SCARS
Series: Spiritual Warfare #4
Author: Linda K. Rodante
Publisher: independently published
Release Date: September 2022
Genre: Contemporary Christian Romantic Suspense

He tried to leave the past behind, but it won’t leave him…

Ex-gang member Garrett Lovett is a new creature in Christ. At least, he’s trying to be. He’s got a wholesome routine, a place on the IronWorks football team, and a pretty woman he wants to know better. But when the old gang resurfaces with the ultimatum to re-up or face consequences, Garrett has tough decisions to make. These guys know how to get to him—his addictions, his fears. When things get life-threatening, Garrett must decide if this God he’s heard about is real or not.

And if so, can he rescue Garrett and those he loves before it’s too late?

Christian Suspense Romance novels have become a favorite genre to read. I at first thought Suspense and Romance in the same book, can't happen. I soon learned how well the 2 genres do work well together. SCARS by Linda K. Rodante is the latest in this genre that I have read. It is book four in the Spiritual Warfare series. I will say I have not read any of the other books in this series, but this book seems to do well as a Stand Alone novel. Linda K. Rodante is new to me author and I was excited to read this book.

Garrett Lovett has been through a lot in his life and is a former Gang Member. Garrett is a new Christian and is trying to live his life for Christ. He is playing on a Local Football team, has a good routine, and has a wonderful girlfriend. He is quite worried about things when members of the Gang show up and threaten him. Will Garrett continue to follow his new life and follow God? Will the Gang Members' threats deter him from his Life in Christ?

WOW, this book is a page-turner from the very first page. I LOVE how Garrett finds a Church that ministers to former Gang Members and Ex-Convicts. I have seen these types of Churches in BIG Cities and it is really encouraging. The author does a GREAT job of tackling some real-life issues including Gang Life and Premarital Sex. The book is about Living for Christ, Second Chances, and Forgiveness. The book is filled with Suspense and Romance, which kept me on the edge of my seat waiting for Garrett to make decisions. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Suspense-Filled Christian Romance! WONDERFUL BOOK!

Christian Romance books are a favorite Genre of mine to read. I also LOVE debut authors. the Bookshop of Secrets by Mollie Rushmeyer is the latest book that I have read that fits both of those!

Hope Sparrow has endured so much tragedy in her life and is always wanting to move from one place to another. She has decided to move to Wanishin Falls as she searches for answers to her Family History. She feels being in Wanishin Falls and the Bookshop is risky, but she also knows that the link to her Late Mother is in the pages of the Books. There is also a Family Treasure in the Dusty Bookshelves. Finding this info could be life changing for Hope and she really needs a fresh start in life. The Elderly owner of the Bookshop has Dementia and cannot help Hope find the info that she is desperately searching for. The Townspeople and the Bookshop owners Grandson, Ronan Barrick, have come forward to help Hope search the Shelves for her Family Treasures. She is grateful for their help especially as info is slowly recovered from the stacks of shelves. Hope begins to allow the people of the Quaint town to slowly get into her life and heart, but she wants to be cautious how much they get into her life. she finds herself getting to know Ronan Barrick and she wants the friendship to grow slowly. Will Hope be able to find the info that helps her understand her Family History? Will Hope begin to fully trust and love the People of Wanishin Falls, especially Ronan Barrick?

WOW, this book is so well written it doesn't seem like Molly Rushmeyer is a debut author! I LOVE Books and Bookstores, so the setting of this story was a win for me. Hope is a very troubled woman but through the LOVE of the people of Wanishin Falls she begins to discover herself. I LOVE how the relationship between Ronan and Hope grows and matures throughout the book. This is a book about God's healing LOVE, friendships and family ties. I HIGHLY recommend this book to all who enjoy Christian Romance. GREAT BOOK!

Mollie writes contemporary fiction with a heart for history. What does this mean exactly? She loves to write inspirational fiction in contemporary settings with fascinating historical elements, people, objects, and stories woven throughout.

A modern girl herself– She wouldn’t want to go a day without modern plumbing and central air! But she’s always felt a special connection to the past. The legacies and lives left behind are like gifts waiting to be unwrapped, and she’s excited to share this blend of history and contemporary living with readers.

A born and bred Midwestern gal, Mollie Rushmeyer, makes her home in central Minnesota with her husband and two spunky, beautiful daughters. She is not only a bibliophile (the dustier the better, in her opinion), she’s a true anglophile at heart. Tea and coffee fuel her travels, by Google maps at least, and her passion for the written word.

More from Mollie

Since childhood, opening up a book unlocked a whole new world for me. Of possibilities and adventure, and made me care for people and places that didn’t exist. Like stepping through the wardrobe into Narnia, books transported me. It was like magic.

As I began dreaming up The Bookshop of Secrets in its early stages, I knew I wanted to create a character who loved books and was in awe of their transformative and transportive power as much as I am. Thus, Hope Sparrow, a human trafficking survivor and ultimate book lover, was born. I also wanted to honor my grandpa, who planted the seed—love of the written word—in my heart from the time I was very young. And so, Ulysses, the owner of Dusty Jackets Bookshop in the story, is based on my sweet grandpa who has since passed away. But I know he’d love this homage to all things literary.

Afterward, I didn’t know if I’d ever write again and I was more terrified of that than not gaining back the full strength of my left arm.

In the middle of writing this book, in 2018, I had a stroke. As with most medical emergencies, it was quite unexpected. I had a hole in my heart (that has been repaired, thankfully). Afterward, I didn’t know if I’d ever write again and I was more terrified of that than not being able to fully move my left arm again. My brain had to make new connections and it was so difficult, still is some days, to be creative. To find the right words.

But God. In the way that only He can, He brought this forgotten story, this project’s finish line that seemed to be at the summit of an insurmountable mountain within reach. I thought I had something to prove to myself. I begged God not to forget my dream to write. Like He could. But in the end, I just had to trust like my character Hope. Trust that He is good even when life hurts and is uncertain.

“Do you know what the opposite of fear is?”

“Bravery? Peace?” Dare she say her namesake, hope?

“The true counterpart of fear is faith. It takes faith to walk into the future, the unknown, with confidence. Secure in the love of the One who created you and those around you outweighs any hardship, real or imagined, that lies on the path ahead.”

I hope following Hope’s journey of healing and love in The Bookshop of Secrets truly blesses you.
