Only when Moses returns to the land of Egypt to free his people is she emboldened to pray to the ancient God her mother used to speak of, and she prays for the love of Seti, but only if he first rejects his gods and falls for the Hebrew God.

As the God of gods hardens Pharaoh’s heart, He softens Seti’s and pursues him with a love Seti has never known, while also shining His face on Eliza who learns she is indeed worthy of love.

This is the Exodus as told from both Eliza and Seti as a love story between God and His people, God and Seti, and Seti and Eliza.

Biblical Fiction is a genre that I enjoy reading. For This Very Purpose by EJ Ashmore is the most recent book in this genre that I have read. It is Book 1 in the Wilderness Series.

I will admit that it took me 2 chapters to really understand the storyline. I was engrossed in the book once the storyline clicked with me. The main characters in this book are Eliza and Seti. Eliza is a 16 year old Hebrew slave in Egypt. Eliza and her sister have been working for a Wealthy Family and Seti is the oldest son of the Family. Eliza feels that she is not worthy of LOVE or even to be seen. She though has seen Seti and she has feelings for him, although he doesn't know this. Seti is Egyptian and in an Apprentice for being a Priest. Eliza and Seti are about to experience changes when God sends Moses to Egypt and it is the time of the 10 Plagues and pre-Exodus. Seti begins to question the Priesthood and instead begins to look toward following Eliza and her God. Seti begins to notice Eliza in a way that Eliza has noticed Seti, with adoration and love. I really LOVE how the Author really brings Biblical History to life in this Fictional Story. The book is one of Faith, Trust, Finding Worth in God and Romance. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Biblical Fiction. GREAT BOOK!

But then Joel Richardson’s SINAI TO ZION came out, and she fell in love with how the whole exodus and wilderness scenario was God’s love story- from pursuit, winning the love of the people, to betrothal, complete with a wedding supper which has yet to happen. It’s a literal play-by-play of the ancient Jewish wedding customs, but so is Christianity. Not only that, but human marriage was designed to reflect God’s desired relationship with His people.

This became EJ’s passion: to demonstrate this in a story for young people, as is to reach the average teenager who feels unworthy of God’s (or anybody’s) love.

Young Adult Historical Fiction is a genre that I have recently discovered. Titus and the Christian Coin: An Adventure of Faith and Freedom by Dennis Conrad with Co-Author Derinda Babcock is the most recent book that I have read.

WOW, this storyline is one that draws the reader in from the beginning. The setting is Northern Italy during the Roman Empire. The main character of the book is Titus. Titus works in the copper mines and talks about his faith all the time. He refuses to deny his faith and that destroys his Family. Titus knows despite the roughness and danger that looms, he will never deny his Christianity. The Historical details in this book are a lesson for the readers to engage in. I remember when I studied about the Roman Empire and Constantine in school, it was one of my favorite History lessons. Titus is a STRONG character in this book and will inspire the Young Readers to live out their faith and not fear the persecution from others. The message of this book will keep those reading it very intrigued and hopefully help them grow in their faith also. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Historical Fiction, especially those from age 8 up to Young Adult. WONDERFUL BOOK!

The Dairy Cow: The Origin of My Life as a Writer

There it was at my fingertips. It was the evidence I needed to prove I’ve been a writer since childhood.

Imagine my surprise when I found The Dairy Cow in my garage. Not just any cow. It was the one I had drawn a picture of and written about in the 1960’s.

I walked by the image and ten lines of writing every day growing up because my mother placed the famed picture in the hallway on the way into my bedroom.

Why would something like this be so important to a man who has written an award-winning children’s book, Marcus and the Emperor’s Coin, and The Two-Cent Piece about the first coins with the words “In God We Trust?”

From starting school until fifth grade, I was a slow reader. My teacher took me aside one day after class and asked, “Have you ever had your eyes checked?”

My response. “No, but my father wears glasses.” After an eye exam, and glasses were prescribed, I could see.

My grades started improving. By the time I was in high school, I was given a scholarship to the six-week University of Kansas Speech and Debate Institute. It changed my life. I earned a master’s degree in Speech Communication. One year, I became Speech Coach of the Year. I ended my career as a Professor of Speech Communications.

The picture of the cow and the little I wrote about the history of cows is an heirloom from a bygone era.

Writing the earliest manuscript of Titus and the Christian Coin, my current young adult novel, required skills I acquired over a lifetime of writing including my writing and illustrating The Dairy Cow.
