I really enjoy Christian Historical Romance books. An Opportune Proposal by Ann Elizabeth Fryer is Book 3 in the Butterton Brides series. I have not read the first 2 books in this series, YET. I intend on reading the first 2 books soon.

Jane Hartford is living with her distant cousin at Butterton Hall. Jane gets worried when strange things begin happening and she begins to wonder if she should leave. She is very aware that she is in danger and is quite surprised when an unlikley ally, Ewan, agrees to protect her. Will Jane figure out who is wanting her out of Batterton Hall? Will Ewan become more than a protector to Jane? Will there be a romance between Jane and Ewan?

I will admit that I had a little trouble getting into the storyline at first. I truly believe that was because I have not read the first 2 books in this series yet. Once I did capture the storyline, I really got into the book. Jane had been through a lot in the past couple of months, with her Dad dying. She is where she thinks it is safe and then things take a turn and she is worried. I LOVE how Ewan comes to her rescue and to be by her side to protect her. Their relationship moved a little fast, but with danger at bay it was a necessary thing. Ewan is a kind sould and I LOVE that Jane trusted him to protect her. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who loves Christiian Historical Romance. I fully intend on reading the first 2 books in this series very soon! GREAT BOOK!

Caryl McAdoo has become one of my favorite authors. New Chicks: at the Peaceable by Grammi McAdoo is a children Picture Book that I recently read. It is the second book in this series about Chickens and Hens on her Farm.

New Chicks and Hens have an order in life and Caryl McAdoo introduces us to the New Chicks that were born on Peaceable Farm in the last year. The Book also shows how even animals can try to "battle for their space" on the farm with the other Chicks and Hens.

I absolutely LOVED this book. The Illustrations and the actual pictures of the Chicken on the Farm are absolutely STUNNING! I really LOVE how the pictures were presented along with the personal stories from the author, it really engages the young readers to keep their attention on the book. The charts and info at the end of the book about Chickens is AMAZING as it truly helps the kids understand the raising of Chickens and Hens. I LOVE that there is a GREATER message in this book and that is that God LOVES and Cares for all his children and also entrusts Parents to help Children Grow and Mature, be kind to another. I HIGHLY recommend this book for Little ones and parents to read to their Children. I am looking forward to more books from the Peaceable Farm & Bookery Grami's Stories for Children series. WONDERFUL BOOK!

As the chicken population grows at The Peaceable Farm & Bookery, troubles come–all based all on the true story! One of our beautiful ‘Golden Laced Wyandotte’ hens got broody and wanted to sit on a nest and hatch a clutch of chicks!

The wee peepers, designated the “Songsters” and named Reba, Celine, Loretta, and Miley (the last by a reader’s daughter), experience the famous and proverbial “pecking order” chickens are so famous for. In human terms that can be called bullying though, and so Goldie, their mother teaches the girls how to respond those bully chickens!

Grami loves her “backyard birds”, and so does O’Pa! She expects the name of the twenty acres she and O’Pa live on in Red River County—The Peaceable—to be the spur for all its inhabitants to cohabitate peacefully with one another—and that includes the chickens!

She and O’Pa, her husband of fifty-five years have bought an incubator to hatch purebred chicks then raise fine, healthy birds to their laying age—usually four to five months—before finding them forever homes. We love our flock, and the babies grow so fast. Watching them is so much fun and relaxing, too!

Grami knows each hen and rooster by name, and they all are so affectionate! They come running whenever I head out the door (mostly because they want to see if I brought any food! 😊) I love thinking about what they are saying to each other with all their clucking and purring and cackling!

This is why the books are partially written from the hens’ point of view as our first animals’ series, The River Bottom Ranch Stories featuring horses and goats and dogs among other wild animal characters. And all those farm animals were real ones that we owned and loved, too—like the chickens!

I talk to the children through a few pages full of dialogue to teach them about poultry and things of God. I always like reading Christian Romance. Add in some Suspense and it gets really interesting to read. The Missing Link is Book 3 in The Langston Sister series. I had the opportunity to read Book 2 and therefore very interested in Book 3.

Layla Langston has decided she is at a point in her life where she needs a change. She leaves the family business to pursue a Career in Journalism. She is hired on at a local Houston Newspaper and Mason Sterling is assigned to be her mentor. Mason is in the midst of a huge story and he isn't really interested in having a "tag along" on his stories, but they are paired together by his boss. The story gets very interesting when it becomes a mystery that the pair will now try to solve as they get the story. Mason, who didn't have an interest in having someone to mentor, discovers that the more time he spends with Layla, the more he is attracted to you. The huge story deepens, will Mason and Layla solve the mystery of people dying and get the story? Will there be a love connection between Mason and Layla?

WOW, this book really captivated me from the first chapter. I really LOVE when people make life Changes and Layla really took a leap of faith and pursued her dreams. I thought Mason had a strong ego at first, but that opinion quickly changed when he had to not only teach Layla but protect her from harm. Layla and Mason make a great investigative team and I enjoyed watching their relationship grow. I really like how the author bought Faith into the storyline. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Suspense with Romance! GREAT BOOK!

I am a HUGE fan of Pepper Basham and I was excited to read her newest book. The Juliet Code is Book 3 in the Fredrick and Grace Mystery series. I read Book 2 in this series and I have anxiously been waiting for Book 3.

I LOVED this book from beginning to end. Book 3 really picks up where Book 2 ended. I don't see that often in Books that are a part of a series and I certainly LOVE when that happens. Fredrick and Grace seem to always run into Mystery and adventure, even on their honeymoon, I LOVE how their interest in the Juliet Paintings and how they hold a Mystery Code. I also LOVE that their friend Jack is also in Venice and he is trying to solve the mystery Art Heists from the home of of eccentric millionaire Laraby Covington. Fredrick and Grace are worried for their friend Jack when he goes missing while trying to solve the Art Heist mystery. I truly LOVE that they put their own Honeymoon aside to find their friend and the thieves before Jack is hurt! The book is filled with Mystery, Romance and History and I did not put it down until I was done reading it! I am looking forward to reading future books in this series. I do recommend reading the books in order, although they do seem to be good Stand Alone books. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Historical Fiction! GREAT BOOK!

The Ever After

I’ve always loved fairytales.

Especially the romanticized version (#romancewriter).

The wonderful sense of a two people meeting, overcoming obstacles to be together, and then the happily-ever-after?

Well, those are some of my favorite reasons to read and write fiction. However, I didn’t realize the challenge I took on when I agreed to write a second and third book with the main characters staying the same!

You know what I mean?

In most series, the main characters from book one become secondary characters in the consecutive books so that the secondary characters in book one can become the main characters in book 2 (everybody still following along? 🙂)

One of my favorite book series that do this so well is the Amelia Peabody series. I fell in LOVE with Amelia and Emerson in book one, but just loved watching their continued dynamic as a couple grow with each new book. I felt as if I got to know them so much better in their “ever after” while they engaged in all sorts of adventures together.

So…that’s what I hoped to accomplish with Freddie and Grace.

Where The Mistletoe Countess ends with a happily-ever-after, The Cairo Curse and The Juliet Code take over to show us more of the…ever after – my attempt at showing how two main characters continue to grow beyond the end of book one.

I didn’t realize what a daunting feat it would be. Watching two characters meet, fall in love, and show some growth in book 1 was what I was used to doing. But how was I supposed to continue that character growth in consecutive books?

Well, I had to grow myself as a writer to understand how small changes can make lasting differences especially when writing about a beloved couple.

I think The Juliet Code shows a little of that growth – of our Freddie and Grace have not only matured spiritually and, in Grace’s case, experientially, but also as a couple.
