I truly enjoy Chrisitan Historical Romance.  Heart of Gold by Lacy Williams is Book 17 in the Wind River Hearts series. I have read a couple of the books in this series and was excited to read this one! 

Ida is wanting to have nice and quiet Christmas with her family after a near-death experience. Her "dreams" of a quiet Christmas are probably not going to happen because her family is anything but quiet. Her brother, who is a US Marshall, then brings a prisoner home for  Christmas and Ida recognizes him. The Prisoner saved her life. Having Tom Seymour in the house puts Ida all off Track. She is in charge of taking care of his injuries when she would rather be relaxing and enjoying Christmas. She begins to realize that he truly is a kind-hearted man and he is in need of Redemption. Tom is smitten by Ida and realizes he needs to make some decisions and changes in his life. Will Tom become a man who Ida can trust? Will Tom return to his life of Crime or will he choose to do good and become a man that is trustworthy? Will there be a romance between Tom and Ida? 

I truly enjoyed this short story from the first chapter and could not put it down until I finished it. I really LOVE how Ida has a heart change from being resentful for being in a noisy environment rather than a quiet Christmas. Tom is a moody and angry person because of his past, losing his parents at an early age and having a life of crime. I really enjoyed seeing him become kind and open his heart to change his life. The author really does a great job at the time period accuracy for this book. The book is one of Second Chances and Growth. GREAT BOOK!

But has it ever happened to you in real life?

Twenty-plus years ago, when I was a freshman in college and before I started dating my handsome hubby, I dated this other guy.

We met at a mixer during the first few days of the semester and hit it off pretty quickly. Classes started, we saw each other a few times socially.

A disaster is exactly what my heroine Ida thinks about being stuck with ex-bad guy Tom for Christmas. They get snowed in with her family (and her deputy older brother) and at first it is awkward.

And then… it’s not awkward anymore.

By the time the snow melts, Ida has caught feelings for Tom.
