I enjoy Contemporary Romance books, especially when they are in a Small Town setting. The Forever Farmhouse by Lee Tobin McClain is Book 1 in the Hometown Brothers series. I have read a couple of Lee Tobin McClain's other series and I have enjoyed them.
Ryan Hastings has returned to Teaberry Island to check on his widowed Foster Mother. He used to live there as a troubled teen and his foster mother helped him greatly. He is now an adult and a renowned Scientist, and he has definitely matured. He still has feelings for the neighbor, Mellie Anderson, the girl he used to date before moving away. Ryan would love to rekindle the relationship they used to have, but he believes he might not be worthy of her love again. Mellie Anderson has a son and Ryan sees he is getting bullied at his school, so Ryan decides to mentor Alfie. Mellie is so happy that Ryan is in Alfie's life, but she has a secret she has been keeping from Ryan about Alfie. Will Mellie tell Ryan that Alfie is actually his biological son? How will Ryan react? Is there a chance for a Rekindled romance?
I really enjoyed this "Second Chance Romance" book. It did start out a little slow, I finally got the storyline in Chapter 2. My favorite character is Ryan. He has such a gentle and caring heart for everyone. He had a rough upbringing but he certainly has overcome a lot. I LOVE how he takes Alfie under his care and helps him through rough patches. Mellie is struggling as she really loves that Alfie has a male figure in his life, but she also wants to tell Ryan about Alfie. I LOVE the Small Town setting of this book. The book is one of forgiveness, moving forward and family. GREAT BOOK!
