Jane Austen meets Sherlock Holmes in this new Regency mystery series
Newly returned from finishing school, Lady Juliette Thorndike is ready to debut in London society. Due to her years away, she hasn't spent much time with her parents, and sees them only as the flighty, dilettante couple the other nobles love. But when they disappear, she discovers she never really knew them at all. They've been living double lives as government spies--and they're only the latest in a long history of espionage that is the family's legacy.
Now Lady Juliette is determined to continue their work. Mentored by her uncle, she plunges into the dangerous world of spies. From the glittering ballrooms of London to the fox hunts, regattas, and soirees of country high society, she must chase down hidden clues, solve the mysterious code her parents left behind, and stay out of danger. All the while, she has to keep her endeavors a secret from her best friend and her suitors--not to mention the nosy, irritatingly handsome Bow Street runner, who suspects her of a daring theft.
Can Lady Juliette outwit her enemies and complete her parents' last mission?
Best-selling author Erica Vetsch is back with a rollicking, exciting new series destined to be a hit with Regency readers who enjoy a touch of mystery in their love stories. Fans of Julie Klassen, Sarah Ladd, and Anne Perry will love the wit, action, and romance.
I really enjoy Historical Fiction and the Regency era. I was excited to hear that Author Erica Vetsch is back with a Regency novel, but it also a Mystery novel. The Debutante's Code by Erica Vetsch is Book 1 in the new Thorndike & Swann Regency Mysteries Series.
I can honestly say that I did not expect this novel to be as good as it is. My first thought was "mixing Regency with Mystery is not going to be good reading". I am happy to say I was VERY Wrong. The 2 genres in one book absolutely work. As I was reading it reminding me of playing a "Game of Clue". Regency Era seems like the "rich in the Mansion" and solving the Mystery in a game of Clue.
The main character, Juliette Thorndike, is such a sweet character who was thrown into the midst of Mystery and Intrigue upon returning home after 7 years. Detective, Daniel Swann, is an amazingly strong man who wants to help Juliette solve the Mystery of missing items and artifacts. I really like how the Author brings faith into the story. Juliette was bought up by Christian Parents and much of her faith today is based on what her parents taught her. Daniel struggles to believe in God because of being abandoned by his parents when he was little. The fact that Faith as a Child plays into our Faith as an adult is really quite interesting. I do believe that to be true. I would have never imagined LOVING a Regency and Mystery story as much as I do, but I truly LOVE this book! I am excited to read the entire series as it comes out! I HIGHLY Recommend this for anyone who likes Historical Christian Fiction and Mystery. GREAT BOOK!
