Author: Terri Wangard
Release Date: April 6, 2021
Genre: Christian Historical Fiction
World War I rages in Europe, and now the United States joins in.
Peter Bloch heads to France with the Wisconsin National Guard, but his wife Maren is the one under attack. She’s German-born, and anti-German hysteria is running high. Simple suggestions for coping with wartime measures lead Maren into an active role in the community, but her service doesn’t help deflect suspicion from her. Zealous patriots target her with a vengeance. Peter caught the eye of a major who seems intent on using him as a spy. He’s been fortunate to avoid injury so far, but these activities are likely to get him killed.
Peter and Maren dream of the day they will be reunited, but more and more, that day appears to be a mirage.
Christian Historical Fiction is a very interesting genre. I always feel
that I am learning something new about History. The Storm Breaks Forth
by Terri Wangard is the second book in a series. I have not read Book 1,
but I am quite interested after reading Book 2.
The time is the 1910's, World War 1 has been happening in Europe.
Peter Bloch is a part of the Wisconsin National Guard and is
deployed to France. His wife, Maren, who is of German descent,
is left back in WI to take care of the household. Maren decides to
take an active role in her community, helping others cope with
the war time troubles. Although, local community members are
suspicious of her and she is very unwelcomed by the community.
due to her German Heritage. A Major of the National Guard wants
Peter to by a Spy. Peter is very cautious about doing so, as he feels
he will die. Peter and Maren hope to be reunited after War, but
sometimes they feel that might not happen? Will Maren and Peter
survive the War Time trauma? Will they be reunited in WI?
I really enjoyed this book. It took me a chapter to really understand
what direction the book was going. I was engrossed in the book from
the 2nd chapter on. The LOVE Peter and Maren have for one another,
even during difficult times really was heart warming. The treatment of
German-Americans in the US during WWI was just heartbreaking.
Teri Wangard did an extraordinary job at telling the story of Peter and
Maren and also really sticking to the History of WW1. GREAT BOOK!
