A heart-wrenching Appalachian novel from a best-selling, award-winning author

In the shadowed hollers of the early-twentieth-century Appalachian Mountains, Lizzy Haney is on the run. She's been falsely accused of murder and is desperate to reunite with her brother, River, whose unforgettable green eyes haunt her. The secret in her past is a stinging wound, but it motivates her toward her goal: freedom.

But nine-year-old River, sent through the US Post Office to their late mother's friend in Knoxville, never arrived. Lizzy's dream of finding him and starting a new life away from their alcoholic and abusive father is ripped away.

Her hope rekindles as she happens upon an unexpected friend to help her dodge the law and save the missing youngin'. As she finds herself trusting him, she discovers the accuracy of the old adage her momma repeated: And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

Christian Historical Fiction is one of my favorite genres. The Eyes of the River by Cindy K. Sproles is the most recent book that I have read.

The setting is 1913 in the Appalachian area of Tennessee.  The main characters in this book are Lizzy Haney and Alton Mosley. Lizzy has had a rough life, especially due to her father being an alcoholic. Lizzy will do anything to save her younger brother, 9 years old,  from going through the wrath of the Dad, as much as she has. She sends him off to be with a friends of her late mother  and Lizzy hopes to reunite with him as soon as she can.  Lizzy is even more determined to reunite with her brother when she discovers he didn't get to his destination.  Alton, who is a childhood friend of Lizzy, is also wanting to help Lizzy and her Brother reunite. Lizzy leaves her town as she is now being accused of Murder, and she knows she is not a murderer. The book has many plot twists which really kept me intrigued. Lizzy stays strong throughout all the chaos of life and she actually grows in her faith. Alton is a wonderful character and he really is an integral part of Lizzy having the courage to run from her abusive father. The book is one of LOVE, FAITH, FAMILY and God's goodness.  I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoys  Christian Historical Fiction. AMAZING BOOK!
