No Longer a Captive is a Christian Fiction book by Author Carol James.  Carol James is a new to me author, having never read any of her books before.

Ethne O’Connor just received a call from her brother that her Dad has died. Ethne moved away from her Hometown 10yrs ago to escape the Abuse she suffered through as a child. Her brother Sean asks Ethne to come back home, now that their Dad has passed. Ethne gives it some thought and decides to return. Ethne is determined to never marry, as she believes that would be the best way to "break the cycle" of abuse, but not having children. Well, upon returning Home she meets Daniel Spenser, a handsome Dr. in town. Daniel's dreams about to come true as he has iinherited the Drd. Office where Ethne and Seans Dad practiced. Ethne has taken notice in Daniel and Daniel has taken an interest in Ethne. He understands her and her past, as he has a similar past of Abuse. Daniel knows he wants to help Ethne, but he also knows he has to do so cautiously. Will Daniel be able to help Ethne break down the walls she has put up? Will Daniel and Ethne have a future together?

WOW, such a powerful book and storyline. I appreciate how the Author tackles a senstive topic, Child Abuse, in an eloquent manner. Ethne is an independent and strong woman who is very broken because of Abuse by her father. Her heart was hardened from being able to LOVE others. Daniel is a man of faith and his faith allowed him to leave his past in the past and move forward. He knows that Ethne needs the LOVE of God to bring her through and allow her to break down the walls she has built. I really enjoyed seeing Ethne slowly begin to open her heart and rely on God and trust others. No Longer a Captive is a book about Forgiveness, Healing and Trusting God. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a Sweet Christian Romance. GREAT BOOK!

More from Carol

One question people always ask me is, “Where do you get the ideas for your books?” Oh, ideas hover all around us. We need only open our eyes and see the common and everyday through the lenses of our faith.

Several years ago, my husband and I began attending a large church near our home. We’d heard people talk about the inspiring sermons their pastor, Buddy Hoffman, preached.

Buddy was unlike any preacher I had ever heard. He had a folksy manner, and he absolutely delighted in tripping all over the English language. Once he told us about a recent mission trip to Asia where he saw Kubotas (i.e. pagodas) dotting the landscape. A picture of a hill covered with riding mowers and tractors popped into my mind.

One Sunday morning, he preached about forgiveness. Ten years later, I don’t remember the major points of the sermon. I remember only one statement he made. “Unforgiveness is a prison.” My English-major self tensed, knowing unforgiveness wasn’t even a word. My husband would have called it a Buddy-ism. But it didn’t matter that unforgiveness wasn’t listed in the dictionary or that spell-check would underline it. That brief statement carried a depth of meaning that entire books might not. Later, in the same service, our worship pastor led us in the song “No Longer Slaves.” And from this service, the idea for No Longer a Captive was born.
