I am a fan of Historical Fiction and was intrigued to read this book because of the synopsis and the time period. Queen of the Rockies by Angela Breidenbach is Book 1 in a new series with the same name.

WOW, the author really does a great job at keeping the reader focused throughout this book. We are taken back to 1889 and the time Montana is becoming a State. Calista Blythe is the main character of the book and she is so  caring, loving and sweet. I really LOVE how much she advocated for the Orphans. Andrew Shanahan is another main character in the book and he really would LOVE to marry Calista. I really enjoyed the connection between Calista and Andrew, even though at times it seemed Calista wasn't interested in Andrew. The Pageant was a wonderful work of Andrew and his heart was in it to help the Orphans. The author has a great writing style and I am looking forward to reading more books in this series!

One of the main reasons I enjoy Historical Fiction is because I feel I learn something about that time period. I truly learned a lot about Montana becoming a State while reading this book. This small book was a fast read, but a WONDERFUL book! I HIGHLY recommend this book for anyone who enjoys Historical Fiction.

More from Angela

Queen of the Rockies captured my imagination and my interest in the originality of Montana’s entrance into the United States of America. The people of Montana are quite varied, a true but much unknown fact. People here come from around the world, completely different genealogical origins as well as backgrounds. The influence of gold mining, transportation, and entrepreneurship as well as the exploration of the wild and beautiful lands inspired amazing creativity for both survival and communities.

From completely uncivilized mining camps to stunning old world know-how of the native peoples to about 100 different immigrant nations brought Montana to statehood. Today, many of those descendants still are here farming, mining, doing business. Many of those languages are still spoken. We have immigrant populations that have continued to come. So though Montana is thought to be nearly all white Americans, that’s not anywhere close to the real Montana. Don’t believe everything you see on TV 😉 Come see for yourself.

Vibrant wildlife, dangers of the wilderness and weather, and the opportunity partnered with intensely hard-working conditions created more millionaires in one place than had ever been before. But that didn’t mean everyone knew how to handle that new wealth. Vigilantes, including a sheriff who robbed those he was supposed to protect, ran the ranges for years. The women who brought civilization tamed the men who couldn’t quite keep themselves under control. It’s these incredible women who braved the elements and the hardships that are the stars in my books. Come and meet them. They continue to inspire me today!

Touring and researching through Montana and especially the three original capitals (finally ending up with Helena) fascinated me. There’s so much to do year-round here. I enjoyed it so much that I wrote short travel articles at the back of each book for my readers. I really hope those articles will intrigue people to come and visit the ghost towns, living history towns, hot springs, mountains, and small cities. Each book in this 6-book series will share something special that may not be well-known but will be unforgettable for you as a tourist.

I hope the stories are fun, full of historic entertainment and romance, but also that you’ll have a fresh view of Montana that fires you up to come and visit our beautiful state.

Please remember to pop over to my website and send me a note through the contact page if you’d like an autographed bookplate for all of your copies of the Queen of the Rockies series. If you’re an eBook fan, I’ve heard of the brilliant idea to keep an album of your favorite authors bookplates. I’d be happy to send you those for an album as well.

Best wishes,

Angela Breidenbach

Celebrate Lit Blog Tour: High Wire Heartbreak by Anna Schmidt

Book: High-Wire Heartbreak

Author: Anna Schmidt

Genre: Christian/Romance/History

Release date: January 1, 2022

In 1936–A party at the Ringling mansion Ca d’Zan in Sarasota, Florida, leads to a robbery–and possibly death.

A successful historical mystery writer, Chloe Whitfield comes to Ca’ d’Zan to research her next novel. Chloe’s fascination with the circus is rooted in family stories of her great-grandmother Lucinda Conroy, who reportedly was a trapeze artist of some renown. She’s heard hints of scandal—and perhaps larceny, but no details.

Chloe’s grandmother—rumored to be Lucinda’s only offspring—was raised in an orphanage and never knew her mother. Intrigued as she is, Chloe has no intent of writing about Lucinda until she sees a poster featuring Lucinda as the star performer for a 70th birthday gala for John Ringling in May of 1936. From there the trail goes cold.

Who was Lucinda and what happened to her?

I read the synopsis of this book and was intrigued to read it. High-Wire Heartbreak by Anna Schmidt is a Historical Fiction with a Dual-Time Spilt. It is Book 6 in the Doors to the Past series published by Barbour Books with varying authors for the books.

The time is 1936 and the setting is the Ringling Mansion Ca’ d’Zan in Sarasota Florida. Chloe Whitfield is a Historical Fiction author who has come to the Mansion to research her next novel. Chloe's great-grandmother Lucinda Conroy was a part of the Ringling Circus as a Trapeze Artist. Chloe has heard that her Great Grandmother may have been involved in a scandal, possibly involving Larceny. Chloe's Grandmother, never knew her mother, who is Lucinda Conroy, as she grew up in an Orphanage. Lucinda is genuinely intrigued by a poster that is advertising Lucinda being a performer at the 70th Birthday extravaganza  for John Ringling. She tries to find Lucinda at the Circus, but has no luck. Will Chloe ever find out the truth as to what happened to Lucinda?

I was pulled into the story from the very first page. The book was a definite Page Turner with the action between 1936 and the present time. Anna Schmidt has a WONDERFUL writing style and really bought the story to life. I have become a fan of the Dual Time Spilt novels within the last year and this one did not disappoint. I really LOVE Chloe's character. She is a determined young woman and wants to know her family history. I highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys Historical Fiction, and dual time spilt novels! GREAT BOOK!

Anna Schmidt is the author of over twenty works of fiction. Among her many honors, Anna is the recipient of Romantic Times’ Reviewer’s Choice Award and a finalist for the RITA award for romantic fiction. She enjoys gardening and collecting seashells at her winter home in Florida.

More from Anna

It’s hard to split time living between Wisconsin and Sarasota Florida and NOT get caught up in the circus world! The Ringlings are icons in Sarasota where a LOT of things are named for them! But the five circus brothers got their start right here in Wisconsin. So, when the opportunity to create a story for DOORS TO THE PAST came my way, it was pretty much a no-brainer that I would go with John and Mable Ringling’s incredible home, Ca ‘d Zan as the setting. Then somehow, I stumbled on this picture:

and I knew she was my character of Lucinda, the trapeze artist whose story would drive my novel. I hope you fall in love with her—and Chloe—as I did, and most of all I hope you’ll be in touch to let me know what you thought at http://booksbyanna.com.

HAPPY READING and all best wishes, Anna

Celebrate Lit Blog Tour: Both Sides of the Border by Terry Overton

Book: Both Sides of the Border

Author: Terry Overton

Genre: Christian Fiction

Release date: March 30, 2021

Inspired by True Current Events.

Dolores, Ernesto, and Emilio Sanchez are on a quest to America to find work and to save their family, who has been devastated by their father’s accident and the drought in their home country of Honduras. But making their way to America would be too expensive for a family stricken by poverty. With only their faith in God to see them through, the teenaged siblings set off for their new home, despite the threat from the cartel, corrupt police officers, starvation, and death.

Meanwhile, Eva Jordan is determined to start a new life on the American side of the Mexican border, hoping to shake off the scars from a horrible marriage. Despite her mother’s concern for her daughter living so close to the border, Eva decides to take a vacation to the other side to sharpen up her Spanish and relax before her new job begins. She is struck by the beautiful towns of Mexico, but slowly, her eyes are opened to the dangers that are knocking at her front door.

When a hurricane washes away the border walls, will the two sides collide in hatred or unite in perfect harmony?

I love reading books by "new to me" Authors and Terry Overton is an author whose books I have never read. Also, the synopsis of this book seemed to be a bit of a "challenging" read. I decided to read Both Sides of the Border, by Terry Overton for those reasons.

Dolores, Ernesto, and Emilio Sanchez are siblings who live in Honduras. The siblings are on a trek to America to find work, save money and bring the rest of their family to America. There are many Roadblocks on their trek to America, including threats from Police Officers, the Cartel and not having enough food. Eva Jordan lives in Texas close to the border of America and Mexico. She has just moved into her apartment and ready to start  a new job. She decides to take a vacation to Mexico as it will help her with her Spanish before she starts her new job and she can get some relaxation in also. She is admiring all the beauty of Mexico and is enjoying her Vacation. Although she suddenly is awakened to the Dangers that lurk for her in Mexico. Will the Sanchez Siblings make it to America and find the "American Dream"? What does Eva Jordan learn from her time in Mexico? What will be the lessons learned for all?

WOW, this was definitely a "challenging" read. The book is a Fiction book based on True events. I had a hard time understanding the storyline at first, but i finally started to gain a bit of an interest in the book by the 3rd Chapter. I admire the Sanchez Siblings for their quest to live the American Dreams. It broke my heart to see them struggle to get here, and I realized that it the truth for many trying to come to America for a better life. Eva Jordan saw the "other side" and it seemed to click with her why so many try to make their way to America for a Better Life. The theme of the book is Immigration and the struggles so many face trying to "cross the borders". The book did not have an overly "Political" tone to it and I appreciated that. It definitely is very eye opening as to the Immigration struggles. I would highly recommend this book for those interested in this topic. Good Book!

She and her husband live in the southern tip of Texas where they enjoy semi-tropical weather and spending time with their friends and family.

More from Terry

As a Christian author, my goals in writing “Both Sides of the Border,” were to have the reader question their own understanding of the people and events of U.S.-Mexico border, analyze these world events through a Christian worldview, and enjoy the plot’s twists and turns. During their travels, the main characters of the story display different levels of their own faith. In the end, both women have increased their faith and understanding of God.

JustRead Tours: Healing Skye by Janet W. Ferguson

Healing Skye JustRead Blog + Review Tour

Welcome to the Blog + Review Tour for Healing Skye by Janet W. Ferguson, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

Healing Skye
Title: Healing Skye
Series: Coastal Hearts
Author: Janet W. Ferguson
Publisher: Southern Sun Press LLC
Release Date: December 16, 2021
Genre: Christian, Contemporary Romance

People can’t be trusted.

Animals always made more sense than humans did to marine biologist Skye Youngblood. After her mother’s suicide, she left Alabama and never looked back. These days, she pours her heart into protecting nature’s sea creatures. When she returns to Dauphin Island, Alabama, for a temporary manatee migration study, her dark past is much too close. She can’t let her guard down. But how can she keep her heart hidden when a kind man with a genuine smile makes her want a fresh start?

Charter fishing pays the bills for widower Pete Thompson and his little girl, but like his father, a pastor, Pete can’t help but fish for men. Only, after growing up under constant scrutiny as a preacher’s kid, Pete’s ways are a bit more unconventional. And the bulk of his life revolves around raising his precious daughter.

When he witnesses the car wreck of a new marine biologist on the island, it doesn’t take a genius to see that more than just her physical pain needs tending. Pete feels called to help Skye find true healing, but he’s navigating dangerous waters. And he’s not at all sure he’ll walk away unscathed.

I enjoy a good Christian Romance novel and Healing Skye by Janet W. Ferguson fit that genre. It is the sixth book in the Coastal Hearts series.

Skye Youngblood is a Marine Biologist who LOVES her career and protects all the Sea Animals with every ounce of her being. She gets the opportunity to go to Dauphin Island, Alabama to participate in a Manatee Migration Study. She hasn't been to Alabama in many years, although she grew up in Alabama. Her life in Alabama is one that she would not want to relive, especially the Suicide of her Mom. Soon after arriving in Alabama, Skye is involved in a Car Crash. Pete Thompson is a witness to the Crash. Pete Thompson is a town local and a widower with a young daughter. He grew up as a Pastor Kid and he is bit unconventional is his ways. He works as a Charter Fisher and adores his daughter with his whole heart. Pete offers to help Skye after her accident. He discovers that Skye's wounds are more then just Physical, she has some deep down healing to do. Will Pete be able to "breakthrough" to Skye? Will Skye be willing to open up to Pete about her Childhood trauma and more? Will there be a romantic connection that might keep Skye in Alabama?

Janet W. Ferguson is an AMAZING Author. Although her books tend to contain sensitive topics(this book contains Child Abuse), her writing style is one that grasps at the reader with emotions. I really like how Pete is sensitive to the needs that Skye has and doesn't want to pressure her. Skye slowly opens up to Pete. Healing Skye is a book about Healing from Childhood Trauma, being able to Trust others, and compassion.  I really enjoy reading Book Series, and after reading 2 books in this series, I am HOOKED! I need to go back and read the series from the beginning, as I started with Book 5. GREAT Book!
