About the Author:
Sarah Sundin is the author of "With Every Letter" and the Wings of Glory series. In 2011, A "Memory Between Us" was a finalist in the Inspirational Reader's Choice Awards, and Sarah received the Writer of the Year Award at the Mount Hermon Christian Writers Conference. A graduate of UC San Francisco School of Pharmacy, she works on call as a hospital pharmacist. During WWII, her grandfather served as a pharmacist's mate (medic) in the Navy and her great-uncle flew with the US Eighth Air Force in England. Sarah lives in California with her husband and three children.
My Thoughts and Review:
I am not a "History Buff" and stories about wars and such "go over my head". I was, however, quite intrigued by the setting of World War II in this book. I thought it was going to more "history related" so I was just surprised when I got a History lesson intertwined with the Romance in the book.
The Tension of the Romance between the main characters, Georgie(Georgiana) and Hutch, matches the tension of the War raging around them. Geogiana has a boyfriend back home and Hutch has a fiance, yet the 2 are attracted to each other. The 2 both discover that their current relationships are falling apart and they lean on each other for support. Their relationship struggles as the Pressure to do their duties in World War II mount. God brings them through the trials and their LOVE survives!
I LOVED this book! It was a "Can't put it down" book! Sarah Sundin is a FANTASTIC writer and that helps keep the reader interested in the book. The Historical setting really comes to life through Sarah's writing style. On Distant Shores is a story of Betrayal, Strength, Friendship, History, Faith, and Hope. My first impression of the book was "Ohh this is going to take forever to read". I was very impressed that even with the Historical setting, it was a gentle read. GREAT book!
I give On Distant Shores 5 out of 5 stars. EXCELLENT Read!
