I have been enjoying this series, The Ever After Mysteries, so I was excited to read Book 12in the series. Robbing the Races by Tabitha Bouldin is the latest book in this series.  The series is written by various authors and each book is a retelling of a Classic Fairytale, but told in as a Murder Mystery novel. Robbing the Races is a retelling of Robin Hood.

The setting of the 1940's was really intriguing for me. Robin Locke (Horse Jockey) and Marian Silvers(News Reporter)  are the main characters in the book. I really LOVE how they are both determined to solve the Mysterious Death at the Stables. The uncovering of some things about the Legend of Locksley makes the Mystery all the more intriguing and exciting to read. I also LOVE the Romance that started between Robin and Marian. I HIGHLY recommend this book to those who enjoy Mystery with a Fairytale slant! FANTASTIC BOOK!

More from Tabitha

As a kid who grew up with Disney films, the Robin Hood cartoon fascinated me. I wanted to know what made Robin Hood such a cavalier thief. I understood his mindset of “steal from the rich and give to the poor” but why did he need to steal?

My uncle David had a saying for years. He’d say, “Steal from Peter to pay Paul and David stays broke.” What he meant was, no matter how hard he tried, he never managed to get ahead in life. Uncle David had a saying for everything and they always made sense in a convoluted sort of way.

In Robbing the Races, I didn’t want to try and persuade Robin that he had a right to steal, I wanted him to have a reason to think it was okay, then show him otherwise. I love heroes who need a little nudge back onto the straight and narrow. Robin sees families suffering, and when he can’t provide for them himself and he sees others who have an excess of money, he decides to take it to help the less fortunate.

Kind of like the two wrongs don’t make a right, Robin learns that his version of justice might help for a moment but that does not excuse his actions. He’s still wrong.

Robin is not the most forgiving character, but he was certainly fun to work with.

JustRead Tours Blog Tour: Hero Debut by Angela Ruth Strong

Hero Debut JustRead Blog + Review Tour

Welcome to the Blog + Review Tour for Hero Debut by Angela Ruth Strong, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

Hero Debut

Title: Hero Debut
Series:
Love Off Script #2
Author:
Angela Ruth Strong
Publisher: Kregel
Release Date:
August 29, 2023
Genre:
Christian Contemporary Romance

"Another sparkling feel-good romance, brimming with perfect doses of heart and heat!"-- Bethany Turner, award-winning author of The Do-Over

Gemma Bennett is the leading lady of her own life, and her true love is writing screenplays. With her trusty pink notebook in hand, she signs up for the Citizen's Safety Academy to research her newest blockbuster hope, a rom-com with a police officer as the hero. And the fact that the handsome and heroic Lieutenant Karson Zellner is the one leading the training? Well, who can blame her for wanting to spend evenings with the man she swooned over months ago when he responded to a call at her apartment?

Karson already has his fair share of problems before Gemma shows up, and he's not exactly a fan of the ditzy blonde who can't seem to stay out of trouble. The last thing he needs is a damsel in distress to rescue; there are plenty of people in real need of his help. The fact that she seems to think his job makes him a superhero is just one more strike against her. This isn't a movie, and he feels like the furthest thing from a leading man.

Gemma can't seem to stop doing the worst, most embarrassing things at just the wrong time. And as time goes on, Gemma begins to realize that the scripts for a perfect screenplay and a real-life happily-ever-after are two very different things. Can she step out of her own way to find the hero her story needs?

Charlie steps in front of me. “She didn’t actually rob a Dairy
Queen. It wasn’t even a real gun.”
My roommate blocked Karson’s face from my sight, which is
probably a good thing. I can’t imagine his statement caused a positive
expression.
“What gun?”
I peek around Charlie.
Does Karson seriously not know about the gun?
The set of his jaw tells me he’s even more serious than usual. If he
doesn’t know about my almost-arrest for armed robbery, then what
could my warrant possibly be for?
“No gun,” I rush to explain. “I was acting in a robbery scene and
someone called the police.”
“It wouldn’t be the first time,” Kai quips.
Charlie holds up a finger. “Actually that was the first time. The
duct-tape scenario was the second time.”
Karson rubs his temples. I may be giving him a headache, but
that’s not illegal.

FrontGate Media Blog Tour: Grit Don't Quit by Bianca Juárez Olthoff

Whether by choice or circumstances out of our control, we will have moments where we feel like we've been punched out, dragged down, or knocked out. What do we do in those situations? You must learn to persevere.

Perseverance requires a deep sense of hope, and thought leader, pastor, and podcaster, Bianca Juárez Olthoff, knows that personally. But it's not just any hope. It's a hope firmly rooted in something other than mere wishes and finger-crossing. This is a hope we have in our future that is rooted in the One who can go beyond our wildest dream to accomplish more than we could ever imagine. However, we must be willing to do the work of cultivating grit throughout every circumstance.

Using the life of Paul the Apostle as a case study, Bianca shows how grit was the genesis of his transformation from a judgmental Pharisee to a world-changing follower of Jesus. In Grit Don't Quit, Bianca will help you:

  • Identify how to cultivate perseverance
  • Discover the cost and benefit of resilience
  • Develop a theological framework for rebounding from loss
  • Understand how grit can change your life
  • Apply practical principles to increase emotional, mental, and spiritual strength

If we can prove to ourselves that the true power is getting back up, we can prove to others that success isn't only for the smart, talented, or well-connected. No matter how many times we fall, our real power comes from when we get back up. Get up, live full, and die empty.

The Storms and Struggles in life will always be there, it is how we react and respond to those struggles. Podcaster and Pastor Bianca Juárez Olthoff has written a book that shows us how to get through the "Grit" of life.

Honestly, this book has come at the PERFECT time for me. 2023 has been a vast amount of Storms for our household. I have been trying my best to "Weather" through the storms, but I haven't been the best through all the storms. Bianca has given some great tips and info about getting through the storms in this book. Her main word throughout this book is PERSERVANCE. We will FALL many times throughout LIFE, we just need to get back up and persevere. I really like that Bianca points the reader to God as our helper for Perseverance and getting through the storms of life. The book is Encouraging, Biblically Sound, and a WONDERFUL BOOK! I highly recommend it for anyone who is going through struggles and needs encouragement.

A bible-teaching, word-slanging MexiRican who is passionate about raising up a generation of people with hearts longing for Jesus Christ. Bianca was illiterate until the age of 12 and through her grit she chose not to quit and has written 3 impactful books.

Now as a church planter and industry leader, she is committed to proclaiming the gospel domestically and internationally through her unique personality that provides comic relief in her insightful and powerful teachings.

But why? Because she has seen way too many of her closest friends lose their way, live isolated, and forget their faith just as so many others do.

If Jesus is real we can be too! It's time to get out of the box, color outside of the lines, and live counter-culturally.

Celebrate Lit Blog Tour: Bold and Brave by K.A. Cummins

Book: Bold and Brave

Author: K.A. Cummins

Genre: Picture Book

Sometimes courage is loud like an elephant, and sometimes it’s quiet like a llama.

Lily, a young autistic girl with a vivid imagination, wants to sing the solo in the school’s choir show. However, the thought of standing at center stage turns her heart a gloomy grey. School is overwhelming enough when no one is watching. Now all eyes will be on her. Will she overcome her fear and be bold and brave?

Bold and Brave is a whimsical picture book showcasing the heartwarming bond of family while visually drawing readers into Lily’s experience and inspiring them to be bold and brave. It’s aimed at readers aged 3 to 8.

I have always LOVED reading to the Little ones and encouraging the Preschool through Elementary aged kids to read. Bold and Brave by K.A. Cummins is the latest Childrens Book that I have had the chance to read to Little Ones.

I am seeing many authors writing books for the Little ones that are not only reading but Character Building Books.  First of all, I really LOVE how the Author highlights that Lily is an Autistic Girl. I know a couple of young ones, Lily's age, that have Autism, and I enjoyed reading this book to them. BRAVE doesn't come easy for young kids, but especially not for those with autism. The author really reaches out not only to the Autism Community with this book, but the General Population also. I think the way the author writes this book is OUTSTANDING. I truly LOVED the Character, Lily. Her parents are encouraging to her in all she does. The Discussion questions at the end of the Book are a wonderful thing for everyone of all ages. The Illustrations in the Book really are bright and beautiful, AMAZING! The overall message of being BRAVE is being able to take chances in life no matter the circumstances. I HIGHLY recommend this book for Kids 3 to 10. GREAT BOOK!

More from K.A. Cummins

“Bold and Brave” is about a young autistic girl who wants to sing a solo in the school’s choir show. While a colorful pair of socks initially inspired the fiction story, it was my personal experiences as a woman and as a mother that most influenced it.

Stories often use words to draw readers into what a character experiences, but I wanted to do something different for this story. I wanted the illustrations to show readers the parts of the young girl’s experience that are often harder to explain.

For some, the smallest actions can take effort and courage, and their boldness and bravery doesn’t always show on the outside.

I hope “Bold and Brave” inspires readers, and provides an accessible insight into one autistic experience.

FrontGate Media Blog Tour: The Hill Movie Review

Growing up impoverished in small-town Texas, young Rickey Hill shows an extraordinary ability for hitting a baseball, despite being burdened by leg braces from a degenerative spinal disease.  His concerned pastor father (DENNIS QUAID) discourages Rickey from playing baseball to protect him from injury, and to have him follow in his footsteps and become a preacher.  As a young man, Rickey (COLIN FORD) becomes a baseball phenomenon.  His desire to participate in a try-out for a legendary major league scout divides the family and threatens Rickey’s dream of playing professional baseball.  Based on a true story, THE HILL is directed by Jeff Celentano and also stars JOELLE CARTER, country music singer and songwriter RANDY HOUSER, Golden Globe nominee BONNIE BEDELIA, and SCOTT GLENN.

Experience Rickey Hill’s extraordinary journey in THE HILL, a film that encapsulates his struggles, dreams, and triumphs. Starring Dennis Quaid as James Hill, Rickey’s father, and Colin Ford as Rickey Hill, this movie is an homage to the power of dreams and the strength of the human spirit. Releasing this August 2023, THE HILL is more than a film – it’s a testament to the power of perseverance and the magic of dreaming big.

In Theatres Friday August 25th! GET YOUR TICKETS from your Favorite Movie Ticket Sales site!

I really enjoy "Based on a True Story" Movies and The Hill probably is one of the BEST that I have ever seen. Rickey Hill was a STRONG Boy and wanted independence by being able to play Baseball. Rickey wasn't going to let his Spinal Disease or the fact that he wore Braces deter him from his dreams. Parents want what is BEST for their Children, and Ricky's Dad wanted to Protect Ricky from further injury. I completely understand the Father's LOVE and concern for Rickey, I also believe in letting Kids reach their dreams and goals despite anything that might hinder them. I truly LOVE that Rickey became a GREAT Player with determination and Faith in God!

The Hill is a MUST-SEE Movie for the Family! It is a Heart Warming, Faith Filled, Inspiring, Family Friendly, and VERY Entertaining Movie! I highly recommend this Movie which will be in Theatres this Friday, August 25th!
