Read With Audra Blog Tour and Giveaway: Shadows in the Mind's Eye by Janrye Tromp

“Tromp weaves a complex historical tale incorporating love, suspense, hurt, and healing—all the elements that keep the pages turning.”

~ Julie Cantrell, New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling author of Perennials

Charlotte Anne Mattas longs to turn back the clock. Before her husband, Sam, went to serve his country in the war, he was the man everyone could rely on—responsible, intelligent, and loving. But the person who’s come back to their family farm is very different from the protector Annie remembers. Sam’s experience in the Pacific theater has left him broken in ways no one can understand—but that everyone is learning to fear.

Tongues start wagging after Sam nearly kills his own brother. Now when he claims to have seen men on the mountain when no one else has seen them, Annie isn’t the only one questioning his sanity and her safety. If there were criminals haunting the hills, there should be evidence beyond his claims. Is he really seeing what he says, or is his war-tortured mind conjuring ghosts?

Annie desperately wants to believe her husband. But between his irrational choices and his nightmares leaking into the daytime, she’s terrified he’s going mad. Can she trust God to heal Sam’s mental wounds—or will sticking by him mean keeping her marriage at the cost of her own life?

Debut novelist Janyre Tromp delivers a deliciously eerie, Hitchcockian story filled with love and suspense. Readers of psychological thrillers and historical fiction by Jaime Jo Wright and Sarah Sundin will add Tromp to their favorite authors list.

I really enjoy Historical Fiction and Suspense Fiction Novels. The Shadows in the Mind Eye's by Debut Novelist Jaynre Tromp combines both into this book. I was very intrigued by the Synopsis and knew I wanted to read this book. The time is just after WWII and the setting is on the Family Farm in Arkansas. Sam has arrived back home after serving in the War. He is trying to adjust to Civilian Life. Annie, his wife, realizes he is not the same person she grew to love and cherish. She believes the war has changed him. Annie gets really worried about Sam's mental state when he almost kills his own brother. Sam also believes that men are roaming the mountain area and this claim has Annie really worried about his safety and sanity. Annie wants to believe her husbands claims, but she is so unsure of what to believe. Annie is putting her trust in God to help her and her especially her husband. Are there any men on the Mountain as Sam Claims? Will life ever return to "Pre War" Family Life on the Farm for Annie and Sam? I will admit I wasn't connected to the book until the about the Second Chapter. Once I understood the story line, I couldn't stop reading until I was done with the book. The book has lots of twists and turns and mystery about it, but the Historical factor is wondeful. I really appreciate how the author addresses PTSD in this book. PTSD is a real thing and can wreck havoc on a person and their family. The author really addresses the issue with care and tenderness. Sam is a true hero having served during WarTime. He wants to get back to his life before war, but he is struggling with life. Annie is a wonderful wife and wants for her husband to be well. I really enjoy the Family Bond between Sam, Annie and their young daughter. I truly enjoyed this book from a Debut Author. FANTASTIC BOOK!
