I have been a fan of Dana Mentink of a couple of years. Dana's book are always intriguing, suspenseful and fun. Yukon Justice is her latest book that I was have read. The book is Book 7 in the Alaska K-9 Unit series. I have read a few books in the series, and they all seem to be good standalone books.

Katie Kapowski has to take a leave of absence from her job as part of the Alaska K-9 unit to go help her Aunt. Her Aunt's Ranch is in danger as someone is trying to sabotage the farm. It is believed that her Aunt's brother, Terrance,  is stealing Reindeer from Family K Reindeer Ranch and it is unclear why he would steal. The Ranch is put under Security checks and surveillance. Braydon Ford is assigned to the Security for the Ranch, which Katie and Braydon have a rocky working relationship. Katie and Braydon are not happy about the assignment, but they concur to work together and capture the one who is sabotaging the Ranch. Will Katie and Braydon be able to protect the ranch and capture Terrance? Will working together bring them a new found relationship and admiration for each other?

Dana Mentick has done it again, another AWESOME book! I really like LOVE Inspired Suspense books. They are always a quick read, although best of all is they have a lot of SUSPENSE packed into a small book. I really like how Katie and Braydon decide to move forward and focus on keeping the Ranch safe and don't dwell on their differences. The time spent together and solving the Ranch Sabotage really is great for their working relationship, but also for their friendship. Aunt Addie, Katie's Aunt, is an wonderful character who really brings joy to the storyline. I was on the edge of my seat at many points in the book as the book wasn't very predictable. I highly recommend this book for anyone who enjoys Suspense, Romance and Faith based books! WONDERFUL BOOK!

Up on the housetop, click, click, click, down through the chimney with good St. Nick. Does anyone know that line from the famous Christmas song? I’ve been singing it for years but only recently did I learn that the clicking is a real reindeer phenomenon. Those reindeer ankle joints make a clicking sound so they can find the rest of their herd if they are separated in a blizzard. It’s just one of the many things I learned about reindeer while researching to write Yukon Justice. In the novel, Katy has to take over running her aunt’s reindeer ranch and protect it from threats by a dangerous intruder. I had the pleasure of “Zoom” interviewing the owner of the Running Reindeer Ranch in Fairbanks, Alaska! Jane helped me learn all kinds of interesting things about reindeer. How much do you know about these critters? Take my quick three question trivia quiz to test your knowledge!

  1. What’s the difference between caribou and reindeer? They are the same animal but caribou are the wild variety and the domesticated version are called reindeer.

  1. Do males or females grow antlers? Both! Reindeer are a type of deer and the only species where the female grows antlers as well as the males.

  1. How come kids put out carrots for Santa’s reindeer? Good question! Carrots are not, in fact, part of a natural healthy reindeer diet. The animals don’t even have front teeth! A much better treat would be willow or birch leaves, or their favorite food…lichen, which they find by scraping the snow away from the ground with their hooves.

So how did you do? If you want to know more about these amazing creatures, snag yourself a copy of Yukon Justice!

Celebrate Lit Blog Tour: Honor in the Mountain Refuge by Misty M. Beller

Book: Honor in the Mountain Refuge

Author: Misty Beller

Genre: Christian Historical Romance

Release date: November 9, 2021

This epic journey is his last chance to start a new life.

After being cast out of his Blackfoot village for his kindness to the Nez Perce captives, Chogan travels west in search of meaning for his life. Meaning that doesn’t require killing or torturing innocent people. Though the lovely face of Telípe, a Nez Perce woman, is imprinted on his heart, he avoids her village.  She deserves a happy life with her husband and coming child.

With her husband dead and the birth of her babe imminent, Telípe’s reality looks nothing like she planned. She’s been forced to return to the village where she grew up and the chaos of her family’s lodge—with all her boisterous younger brothers. She desperately desires to start a new life for herself and the babe growing within her, but she can’t seem to climb above the mire of her past. When she stumbles into the brave who’d shown her kindness during her captivity, something ignites within her—a new hope.

Chogan’s determination to stay and help Telípe is thwarted by her people’s fear and hatred for his tribe—especially since he was among last winter’s kidnappers. It doesn’t matter that he did everything he could to keep her and her unborn child safe and comfortable during that awful event. But as a new predator threatens the safety of the village, Chogan determines to take down the massive wildcat that’s already injured several children—including one of Telípe’s younger brothers. When the danger escalates, Chogan is faced with an impossible choice. No matter which option he chooses, his life will never be the same—nor that of the woman he’s come to love.

From a USA Today bestselling author comes another epic journey through breathless landscapes and adventure so intense, lives will never be the same.

Honor in the Mountain Refuge is the 6th book in the Call of the Rockies series by Misty M. Beller. I have not read all the books in this series, but I have read a couple of them before this one. I do like to read Series books, although this series is great as a Standalone book. I have never been lost when reading the books out of order.

Chogan has been exiled from his Blackfoot village because he was friendly and kind to the Nez Perce captives. He is now on a search for where he is meant to be in life. His heart and mind are really on Telípe, a woman from the Nex Perce Village. He understands her focus is on her husband and her pregnancy, so he stays away from her Village. Telípe's husband has recently died and she is about to give birth to their child very soon. She has returned to the Village where she grew up to be around her family. She would rather be on her own as she prepares to give birth, but there are things holding her back. Telípe runs into Chogan and her heart just flutters with Hope. Chogan would love to stay in the Village with Telípe, but her Trible and family are against this due to his participation in holding their Village captive. Can Chogan prove to the Village that his intentions with Telípe are good? Will Chogan and Telípe survive a "forbidden" LOVE and be welcomed as a couple?

WOW, Misty M. Beller has written another GREAT book! I have become a fan of Misty M. Beller in the past few years and I am always excited to read her books and this one was certainly up there as one of her best books. The storyline grabs the reader in very quickly and the excitement of the story continues throughout. The "Forbidden LOVE" theme of the book is one that really intrigues me. Chogan and Telípe are really great characters and the author does a great job at highlighting their strengths and weaknesses in the book. The book is also Faith based and the Gospel is clearly represented throughout the book. I HIGHLY recommend this book for anyone who enjoys Christian Historical Fiction! FANTASTIC BOOK!

Misty M. Beller is a USA Today bestselling author of romantic mountain stories, set on the 1800s frontier and woven with the truth of God’s love.

She was raised on a farm in South Carolina, so her Southern roots run deep. Growing up, her family was close, and they continue to keep that priority today. Her husband and children now add another dimension to her life, keeping her both grounded and crazy.

God has placed a desire in Misty’s heart to combine her love for Christian fiction and the simpler ranch life, writing historical novels that display God’s abundant love through the twists and turns in the lives of her characters.

When minor characters get their own story!

One of the things I love about writing in series is the chance for minor characters to become major characters, with fascinating lives and personalities of their own! The heroine in Honor in the Mountain Refuge, Telipe, first appeared in Light in the Mountain Sky as Meksem’s little sister who was kidnapped by a band of Blackfoot warriors. Even when I’m the writer, characters often surprise me by doing things very differently than what I expected!

Telipe did exactly that in one of the final scenes of that previous book. When Meksem and her friends showed up to rescue Telipe and the other captives, Telipe actually braced herself in front of one of one of her Blackfoot captors, stopping anyone from injuring him. Why would she do that?

In that book, Telipe only says that the man had been kind to her when the other warriors were not. I knew there HAD to be more though.

I pray you enjoy learning Telipe’s story as much as I did, including how that Blackfoot brave she protected shows up again in the most unexpected of places!

Amish Fiction is my absolute favorite Genre of Fiction books. The Amish Outcast's Holiday Return by Lacy Williams is the most recent Amish Fiction book that I have read. I have read a few of Lacy Williams Cowboy Romance books, but this is the first Amish Fiction Book that I have read by this author.

Zach Miller has waited 5 long years to return to his Amish Community,  and he is seeking forgiveness for an accident that happened 5yrs ago. Zach Miller is responsible for an accident that killed the fiancé of Grace Beiler's Sister and he spent 5yrs in prison for it. Sarah has been devastated since the accident and has had a very hard time with life. The entire Beiler family has been impacted by this accident and how it has affected Sarah. Grace's father gives Zach a chance at a new life by hiring him for a job. Grace begins to really get to know Zach as he spends more time working for her father. Admittedly, Grace is really falling for Zach as she can see that he is a changed man from the Teenager who made a mistake. Grace is stuck in a predicament though, as she LOVES her Sister and doesn't want to cause family rift by having a relationship with Zach. Can Sarah forgive Zach for his role in her fiancés death? will Grace and Zach be able to have a relationship? Will Zach be welcomed back into the Amish Community??

WOW, this is one of the BEST Amish Fiction books I have ever read. I really give Zach a lot of admiration as he made it a point to come to the Beiler Family and ask for forgiveness, as soon as he was released from Prison. He wanted a fresh start and Mr. Beiler saw his sincerity and gave him a job. Grace has a GREAT heart and a willingness to forgive, but she also saw how she needed to make sure she lose her sister's trust in the midst of having a relationship with Zach. The book was a quick read, but packed soo much into the story. The Amish Outcast's Holiday Return is a book about Romance, Faith, Forgiveness and Second Chances. Ohhh, the Christmas spirit is very prevalent in this book also! FANTASTIC BOOK!

Lacy Williams wishes her writing career was more like what you see on Hallmark movies: dreamy brainstorming from a French chateau or a few minutes at the computer in a million-dollar New York City penthouse. In reality, she’s up before the sun, putting words on the page before her kids wake up for the day. Those early-morning and late-night writing sessions add up, and Lacy has published fifty books in almost a decade, first with a big five publisher and then as an indie author. When she needs to refill the well, you can find Lacy birdwatching, gardening, biking with the kiddos, or walking the dog. The Best Part of a Barn Raising

Have you ever had your community rally around you? Maybe some of your friends threw you a baby shower. Maybe your church helped with a meal train when you were ill for a time. Maybe you played sports and raised money together as a team.

Has your community ever built you a house?

I’ve written lots of historical books. I’ve written a barn-raising or two into my books. Until I started researching for THE AMISH OUTCAST’S HOLIDAY RETURN, I didn’t realize that community “raising” events still happened in 2021. They do!

In some Amish communities, builders will gather all the materials for the house or barn and on (usually) a Saturday, the entire community will gather to build the whole structure. There’s a really cool timelapse of a barn raising on YouTube that you can check out.

I’ve always loved writing about these events because of the community aspect. We need human connection and there’s something special about having your community surround you and show their love in a tangible way. Imagine walking into your home that your friends built for you. Every time you walked over the threshold you could remember the friend who built the door frame. When it storms, you could appreciate the roof over your head that many friends helped stretch the frame for. What an amazing feeling of belonging.

Of course, barn raisings and house raisings wouldn’t be complete without the food. Typically, the women and girls put together a giant potluck for the men and boys who are doing the physical work of building the structure. Brainstorming for this always makes me remember church potlucks when I was a child. Our church met at the local 4-H building. We would stretch out folding tables and chairs in long rows. And the food. Pasta salad. Fried chicken. Chocolate cake!

(I also remember roller skating in the back of the massive building with my friends, but that is a whole other story…).

Memories and friendships are forged at church potlucks and barn raisings. And when you are on the inside, it creates a lovely sense of belonging. But the hero in THE AMISH OUTCAST’S HOLIDAY RETURN, Zach, is not on the inside. He’s an outsider who has come home and is searching for a place to belong. The barn raising/potluck is the moment when heroine Grace sees a hint of vulnerability in Zach—because he wants to belong. It changes everything in their new acquaintanceship.
