Survival Secrets

Title: Survival Secrets
Series:
The Magi's Encounters #2
Author:
Lana Christian
Publisher:
Scrivenings Press
Release Date:
September 23, 2025
Genre:
biblical fiction

On the run from Herod and the Nabataeans, Akilah makes a desperate decision to venture into the unforgiving Wilderness of Paran. To reach Egypt’s safety, his caravan must survive the elements while maintaining their anonymity and protecting the secrets they harbor. Their knowledge of Yeshua is one of many secrets that jeopardize their lives. When calamity tears one Wise Man away from the others, the group’s resolve and newfound faith start to crumble. Farther from their goal of returning to Persia than ever before, they encounter Yeshua’s family again. Its ramifications raise the stakes for their cost of belief in the Hebrew God.

Two thousand miles away, Akilah’s estranged cousin, Farzaneh, wrestles with the same as she tries to uncover secrets her husband took to the grave when he embraced the Hebrew faith. As life shifts radically for everyone, each person must risk trusting an unfathomable, sovereign God.

Biblical Fiction is a genre that I have become more interested in over the year or so. Survival Secrets by Lana Christian is the latest in this genre that I have read. It is Book 2 in the Magi's Encounters series. I have not read Book 1 yet, although I am interested in reading it soon.

I will admit the storyline didn't click with me right away. I was in the second chapter when  I really got engaged in the story. Once I was engaged in the story I couldn't put the book down. The story focuses on the journey of the Wise Men and their "caravan" of people. The journey was long and dangerous, but they were determined to make it to their destination. Their strength and endurance was God Given and they stay focused throughout because of God. Secrets were hidden throughout their journey, only to be revealed at the end. The author researched for this book really well and it shows with the Biblical and Historical Facts throughout. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Biblical Fiction. GREAT BOOK!

Christian Historical Romance is a favorite genre. I also LOVE Christmas themed Fiction books. Christmas Mail Order Brides, Anthology by Vickie McDonough, Carrie Turansky, Susan Page Davis is the latest book that I have read in this category.

I began reading it immediately and could not stop. There different stories by 3 different authors, and short novellas. I was able to finish the entire book in about 4 hours. Mail Order Brides was the similarity in all 3 novellas and I enjoy reading books that have "Mail Order Brides" as characters. The characters in each of the stories were all based out of  Amelia Mayberry’s matchmaking agency.

A Trusting Heart by Carrie Turansky was so beautiful and the main character in this book was Annika Bergstrom, originally from Sweden. Annika will end up in Wyoming to met her possible future husband. I really LOVED that Annika bought Christmas Treasures from her Homeland Sweden on her journey. I have seen Swedish Christmas decorations and they are certainly amazing. Her matchmaking journey is not what she anticipated, but she never gives up hope that there will be a new chapter for her.

The Prodigal Groom by Vickie McDonough also had a really great storyline. Clay Jackson, a rancher, is on his way home to see his father and resolve some issues between them. He meets Mail Order Bride, Jolie Addams, when they are both apart of a Stagecoach accident. Their story is filled with many things they did not see coming. I really enjoyed their story.

Mrs. Mayberry  Meets Her Match by Susan Page Davis was amazing and wonderful. Matchmaker, Amelia Mayberry is wanting to retire, but there is a very important match that she has to fix. The best friend of her deceased husband could have failed match, until Amelia steps in and discovers the match was right before her eyes all along.

The Christmas "Magic" in these stories in making LOVE Matches is so beautiful and amazing. I HIGHLY recommend this book for anyone interested in Christian Historical Romance! GREAT BOOK!

Carrie Turansky has loved reading since she first visited the library as a young child and checked out a tall stack of picture books. Her love for writing began when she penned her first novel at age twelve. She is now the award-winning author of more than twenty inspirational novels and novellas. Carrie has won the ACFW Carol Award, the International Digital Award, and the Holt Medallion. She lives in New Jersey with her husband, Scott. They have five grown children and twelve grandchildren who bring them much joy. When she’s not writing, you’ll find her walking around the lake near her home, working in her flower gardens, cooking healthy meals for family and friends, or leading women’s ministry at her church.

Susan Page Davis is the author of more than 100 published novels and novellas in the romance, mystery, historical, and romantic suspense genres. She’s a winner of the Carol Award, Will Rogers Medallion, and the Faith, Hope, and Love Readers’ Choice Award, and a finalist in the Selah Awards and Willa Literary Awards. A Maine native, she now lives in western Kentucky with her husband, Jim.

Vickie McDonough is the CBA, EPCA and Amazon best-selling author of 54 books and novellas. Vickie grew up wanting to marry a rancher, but instead, she married a computer geek who is scared of horses. She now lives out her dreams penning romance stories about ranchers, cowboys, lawmen, and others living in the Old West. Vickie’s books have won numerous awards including the Booksellers Best, OWFI Best Fiction Novel Award, the Inspirational Readers’ Choice awards. When she’s not writing, Vickie enjoys reading, making cards, gardening, and traveling.

Bringing a Swedish Christmas to the American West

By Carrie Turansky

In my novella, A Trusting Heart, part of the Christmas Mail-Order Brides Collection, Annika Bergstrom, who is originally from Sweden, leaves her home in Chicago and travels to the rugged Wyoming Territory in 1880 to marry a man she’s never met. Though she carries only a small trunk, she brings with her something far more meaningful—cherished Christmas traditions from her homeland.

Swedish Christmas celebrations begin early with the first Sunday of Advent. Annika remembers her mother lighting a candle each week leading up to Christmas, filling their home with warmth and anticipation. In her new Wyoming home, she lights a candle, longing for connection and clinging to faith and hope as she begins this new chapter of life.

December 13 brings one of the most beloved Swedish traditions—St. Lucia Day. In Sweden, the youngest daughter dresses in a white gown with a red sash and wears a crown of candles, waking her family with coffee and saffron buns. Annika lovingly bakes these sweet rolls with her intended’s daughter, hoping it will draw them all closer.

As Christmas Eve—Julafton—arrives, Annika prepares a modest version of a Swedish smörgåsbord: roasted ham, root vegetables, and creamy rice pudding. She hides an almond in the pudding, smiling as everyone at the table eagerly searches their bowls. According to Swedish tradition, the one who finds the almond will marry in the coming year. Laughter and joy fill the room, and Annika feels a growing sense of belonging with her new family.

Swedish traditions add depth and richness to A Trusting Heart, reminding us that wherever we go, the light of Christmas can shine brightly—especially when carried by a trusting heart.

We hope you’ll enjoy reading Christmas Mail-Order Brides which includes three novellas: The Prodigal Groom by Vickie McDonough, A Trusting Heart by Carrie Turansky, and Mrs. Mayberry  Meets Her Match by Susan Page Davis. Each heartwarming story that will transport you back to a joyful, old-fashioned Christmas.

I have been saying for a few years now "Getting older isn't fun." The many aches, pains and changes that happen as one gets older can wreck havoc on our bodies. I have not reached the stage in Life that most women dread, Menopause, but I know that stage is coming. Hot Mess Express: A Humorous and Practical Survival Guide for Menopause by Sally Friscea is a book that will give insight and knowledge into what to expect for this stage.

I LOVE how the author is very transparent about her journey through Menopause and does it with humor. Sally gives tips and information as to what to "look forward to" when the stages of Menopause begin. I know all the Practical tips in regards to Hot Flashes, Mood Swings and more will be helpful to those who are approaching Menopause. I know being the only woman in my household with my Husband and 3 Young Adult Sons, it will be an interesting time for them also. I also laughed through many of the stories Sally shared. I think women need laughter through one of the most challenging stages of life and this book really helps with that also. This book is just one woman's journey and each woman's journey could be different, but I truly enjoyed this book! GREAT BOOK with encouragement and laughter!

Sally Friscea writes with humor to give hope to the longing heart. As a former member of the US Army, she found herself on an ISIS kill list but is now trying to live a quieter life after marrying for the first time at the age of fifty.

She weaves hope and humor into nearly every story. She is a multi-genre and award-winning writer. She has completed two children’s picture books and an adult murder-suspense novel based around the Kennedy Space Center awaiting publication. She also enjoys shorter works of fiction and articles.

Currently, Sally is working on subsequent novels for the murder-suspense series, a speculative dystopian novel about the aftermath of a second civil war, and other projects that reflect her diverse background.

She’s the Social Director of the Florida Christian Writers Conference and the president of Word Weavers International’s Brevard Chapter. When she’s not bookkeeping, budget counseling, or writing, Sally enjoys spending time with family and friends, scrapbooking, and doing crafts, some of which she sells on Etsy.

More from Sally

I didn’t know it was hot flashes for the first five years. I thought the air-conditioning was broken everywhere I went, because it was. At my house in Florida, my bedroom at the end of the line sizzled. At the office, the unit that fed my room was down; I relied on the trickle of AC from the main room. And my car fritzed often enough, so I didn’t notice it was hot flashes until a friend’s husband mentioned her “crazy pills” at their house one night. She explained they were for hormones and how awful she’d been before taking them.

When she mentioned hot flashes, the light bulb went off. My mother never said anything about suffering from menopause, and the only person I’d ever known to talk about any of it used to break out an oriental fan when the flashes happened, but she was in her fifties, therefore, I didn’t connect the dots in my early forties. All the older ladies at scrapbooking said my sleep issues were menopause, but again, I was too young for that. Then I learned it’s happening about a decade earlier than in previous generations.

When I complained to a friend at the Florida Christian Writers Conference about my perimenopausal symptoms and my great ignorance, she told me I should write a book and put all my humor into it. I spent the next few months taking notes and decided that I indeed had enough material for a book. My dystopian book in progress got pushed aside, and I started down the rabbit hole of finding answers for myself and compiling a useful tool for others walking blindly on the path of menopause.

I found some existing books using humorous personal stories and others addressing symptoms by using medical speak, but nothing with both, so I married the two and tried to dumb it down in a way that even I would understand. I threw in the humor to make the reader know they are not alone. I addressed those pesky symptoms using pharmaceutical, holistic, and over-the-counter treatments where available to appease all the ladies.

As I wrote the book, I kept finding that how we live our forties determines our fifties, our fifties determine our sixties, and so on, subsequently addressing food and other obstacles to longevity. I wrote this book because most women don’t want to talk about this topic, and most doctors aren’t trained in the field of aging women.

I found that even women who don’t suffer greatly will still submit to the effects down the road with osteoporosis and heart disease, because of the diminishing hormones. I attempted to cast as wide a net as possible by writing it in a way to entertain as well as inform so the reader can advocate for herself with her doctors and learn how to avoid spiraling out of physical independence in the latter years. This book is the sugar coating on a hard topic not being talked about enough. I wrote it so you won’t have to talk about it outside your physician’s office.

Middle School aged books are always an interesting genre. Encouraging this age group to read can sometimes be difficult. How to Kill a Giant by Carol Schlorff is the latest book in this genre that i have read.

The synopsis of this book really was appealing and the book did not disappoint. The main characters in this story are Hugo, Julia and Stefan. Hugo is the "new kid in town" and feeling lonely. Julia and Stefan(siblings) are visiting their Grandparents for the Summer in the town Hugo just moved to, a small town in Pennsylvania. Hugo is a target of bullies in his new town and fears that he will never have any friends. Julia and Stefan are not having a good time visiting the small town, then things change when they meet Hugo. The 3 become friends immediately and upon exploring they find an old Bible. The Bible takes them back to ancient Israel and they meet David, in the time of when he was young. The 3 friends are now in a time period of Biblical times and are take on challenges they would have never thought to be in. I really LOVE that Hugo learns to conquer his fears and be strong. The book has a STRONG message of God helping us through Fears of Life, being strong. Faith, Friendship and being filled with courage against the Battles of Life. The book is geared towards Middle School ages, but I feel Adults can also be encouraged by reading this book. I HIGHLY recommend this book. GREAT BOOK and message!

Carol’s passion is to write exciting stories that encourage, inspire, and boost the reader’s faith, possibly because she has always felt like an outsider. She was born in North Africa to American parents and grew up in France. At age 15, her family’s abrupt move to Philadelphia resulted in a rough transition to American life.

After graduating from Penn State, Carol joined the Army in search of adventure. She was stationed in exotic—for her—locations like California, Arizona, and Texas.

Since then, Carol has lived in Cracow, Poland, where she teaches English and organizes language camps. She also writes a blog on faith-related topics.

Carol enjoys caring for her cat, Tabasco, watching a good murder mystery, and getting nervous while watching NFL games.

More from Carol

The idea for my book about time travel back to the Bible came to me during a church sermon on meditating on God’s Word. As soon as the outline for the story popped into my mind, I could no longer focus on what the pastor was saying, as I was too busy organizing my thoughts into the semblance of a logical plan. That day marked the beginning of a five-year journey to write and publish my first novel, How to Kill a Giant.

My motivation for writing is to demonstrate that the Bible is relevant to our lives, provides the answers we seek about life, and is far from boring. Of course, I also want my readers to have fun and stay on the edge of their seats. Growing up in a Christian home where my parents were missionaries, I still had many questions and doubts about the Bible and Christianity, especially starting in middle school. That’s why I target this age group. If my books can help my young (and older) readers grow in their faith and trust in God, then I will consider them a success.

If you asked me to summarize my book in one sentence, I would say it explores the heart of David and the courage that enabled him to fight Goliath, wrapped up in the packaging of a thrilling action and adventure story. Happy reading!

JustRead Tours Blog Tour: The Sweetheart Deal by Lenora Worth

The Sweetheart Deal JustRead Blog Tour

Welcome to the Blog Tour for The Sweetheart Deal by Lenora Worth, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

The Sweetheart Deal

Title: The Sweetheart Deal
Author:
Lenora Worth
Publisher:
Independently Published
Release Date:
September 10, 2025
Genre:
Sweet Cozy Romance

"One day I’m going to marry you..."

Jake Harper had said those words to Vanessa Conroy since kindergarten, but after watching her parents’ bitter divorce and living with her mother’s devastation, Vanessa made a promise to herself—she’s never getting married. She’ll stay single and pursue her dream of being a ready-to-wear fashion designer.

In high school, Vanessa dated and broke up with every bad boy in the book, while Jake remained her consistent buddy. He was her wingman, her best friend, her go-to person for special occasions, but she held him at a distance. Why ruin a wonderful friendship? On the night of their final prom, Jake takes a risk and kisses her. Stunned by how right it feels, Vanessa rashly blurts out a deal: if they’re still single at thirty, maybe she’ll marry him.

Now, thirteen years later, they’re back in Sweetheart Bay to be part of her sister’s wedding. And they’re both still single at thirty. Vanessa begins to see Jake in a new, more romantic light, but Jake, a successful architect living in California, hasn’t said a word about their old pact.

As family drama bubbles and old feelings resurface, Vanessa must face the one possibility she’s always run from: what if her true love has been standing beside her all along? Can she and Jake find their happily-ever-after back on Sweetheart Bay?

Romance genre is one that I have enjoyed for many years. The Sweetheart Deal by Lenora Worth is the latest in this genre that I have read. Lenora Worth has published many books, but this is the first book by her that I have read.

WOW, I was captivated by the story from the first few pages. The 2 main characters in the book are Jake Harper and Vanessa Conroy. They have known each other and have been best friends since Kindergarten. The line that most Kindergarten kids say to one another is one that Jake and Vanessa said to each other. "One day I’m going to marry you..."  was echoed by the 2 best friends, but Vanessa made a decision early in life that could make that  promise never happen. Vanessa witnessed her parents go through a bitter divorce and she swore off marriage. The pair stayed BEST Friends throughout High School, but never really dated. I thought the Pact they made on the night of Senior Prom was very interesting. The move on with life, but remain friends. They are bought together 13 years later, at the time their pact would come to reality, if circumstances stood true. Vanessa has always been reluctant to pursue anything Romantic with Jake, but she suddenly realizes that Jake might have been "the one" all along. I really ENJOYED this book and the Sweet Romance that became of the characters. The book is one that shows that our eyes can be opened to many things, even years later. We have to be willing to look deep into our hearts and be willing to pursue what is set before us in life and choose the right path. I would HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Sweet Romance books! GREAT BOOK!
