Release Date: July 5, 2022
Genre: Dual Timeline Fiction,Christian

Answering a woman’s desperate call for help, young Navy widow Helen Devries opens her Whidbey Island home as a refuge to Choi Eunhee. As they bond over common losses and a delicate, potentially devastating secret, their friendship spans the remainder of their lives.

After losing her mother, Cassidy Quinn spent her childhood summers with her gran, Helen, at her farmhouse. Nourished by her grandmother’s love and encouragement, Cassidy discovers a passion that she hopes will bloom into a career. But after Helen passes, Cassidy learns that her home and garden have fallen into serious disrepair. Worse, a looming tax debt threatens her inheritance. Facing the loss of her legacy and in need of allies and ideas, Cassidy reaches out to Nick, her former love, despite the complicated emotions brought by having him back in her life.

Cassidy inherits not only the family home but a task, spoken with her grandmother’s final breaths: ask Grace Kim—Eunhee’s granddaughter—to help sort through the contents of the locked hope chest in the attic. As she and Grace dig into the past, they unearth their grandmothers’ long-held secret and more. Each startling revelation reshapes their understanding of their grandmothers and ultimately inspires the courage to take risks and make changes to own their lives.

Set in both modern-day and midcentury Whidbey Island, Washington, this dual-narrative story of four women—grandmothers and granddaughters—intertwines across generations to explore the secrets we keep, the love we pass down, and the heirlooms we inherit from a well-lived life.

"This is women's fiction as it is meant to be written with intriguing characters making decisions that ripple through generations." - Library Journal, starred review

I have come to enjoy Dual Timeline books with a passion. Heirlooms by Sandra Byrd is a Dual Timeline Christian Fiction book. I was very intrigued by the Synopsis and was excited to get the chance to read it.

Helen Devries was a young widow of a Navy Sailor. She was asked to take in a refuge, Choi Eunhee, and she agreed. Helen and Choi bonded rather quickly as they had lots in common and shared a deep secret. Their friendship lasted a lifetime. Cassidy Quinn spent Summers with Grandma Helen at the Farmhouse and Grandma Helen was encouraging and Loving to Cassidy. Cassidy was devasted when Grandma Helen passed away, but she also heard Grandma tell her "ask Grace Kim". Grace Kim was the granddaughter of Helen's lifelong friend, Choi Eunhee. Cassidy learned that the house she was to inherit needed many repairs and that there was a large amount of tax debt on the house. Although it isn't ideal, she reaches out to her ex-boyfriend, Nick, to help her navigate the inheritance and repair issues. Upon getting all the inheritance issues straightened out, Cassidy accesses the house. She also speaks to Grace Kim and they begin to honor her late Grandma Helen's dying advice and clean out the Hope Chest in the attic. Cassidy and Grace Kim uncover their Grandmother's deep secret in the Chest. The Hope Chest also reveals some family legacies and so much more.

I LOVED this book from beginning to end. The Dual Timeline flowed beautifully throughout the story and I had no problem following along. The relationship between Grandma Helen and Cassidy was so precious. Cassidy and Grace Kim share a special bond like their Grandmothers also did. I personally love Family Legacies and passing things down to the next generation. Heirlooms is a heartwarming story of 2 different generations sharing a bond in a special way. The author does a wonderful job at bringing the story of the Dual timeline to life! FANTASTIC BOOK!
